Vehicle Story

This 1959 Porsche 718 RSK roadster is a racecar replica that was produced by Thunder Ranch set up on a space frame chassis, developing power from a rebuilt 1,498cc flat-four paired with a 4-speed manual transaxle. Coil spring underpinnings provide balance and composure while the interior offers vinyl upholstery in the cockpit for two. Finished in Burgundy Metallic over a tan vinyl interior, this replica is now offered with service records, an extra set of wheels, and a clear Alabama title in the seller’s name.

Launching in 1958 in Formula races in Europe, the original Porsche RSK was designated as purely a racecar, drawing its name from a combination of Rennsport and K, the K being a descriptor for the front suspension configuration. Thunder Ranch in El Cajon, California, now known as Rock West Racing, produced the framework for a street-legal replica of the racecar by adapting a TR 550 frame, powder coating it, and then adding a blended polyester body to the frame with adhesive and rivets. This custom-built example rides on a space frame chassis and is painted Burgundy Metallic, accented by gold-finished Porsche logos and displaying covered headlamps, quad taillights, and a single-outlet exhaust.

Chrome-finished racecar wheels are currently mounted on this replica, and the sale includes an extra set of wire wheels. The suspension setup consists of a watt linkage and coil springs.

The interior is fitted with tan vinyl bucket seating for two, contrasted by brown piping.

Instrumentation includes a speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The odometer reads 2,475 miles, which reflects mileage driven since completion of the build.

The rear-mounted 1,498cc Volkswagen flat-four was completely rebuilt in early 2021 according to the seller. Power is directed via a 4-speed manual transaxle.

The sale includes service records.

AUTOHUNTER ADMIN UPDATE 7/8/21: The vehicle is title as a 1959 Porsche

Can you please clarify that it has a title. I thought Alabama did not issue Titles on older cars and you mention it is listed as a 1959 so just checking if it has a Title or just a AL registration. Thanks

I am not the first owner. I traded a Bentley and cash for this car almost two years ago. I do not know when it was built.

Hi Ray, The video that was sent in came through in a resolution size of 144p and becomes choppy when converted into a YouTube video for our site. We have tried to come up with ways to convert the video, but it proceeds to studder and lose audio.

This beautiful car is located at my office here in Pelham , Alabama. It is very fast and fun to drive. I hate to see it go. Stupidly , I bought more convertibles than I have garages for. I will assist anyone with shipping if needed.
