Vehicle Story

This 2006 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H is finished in black over charcoal leather and is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission with 21k miles.  It was originally sold in Massachusetts as a rental vehicle with Hertz and was subsequently registered in Montana, with service history in southern California.  Equipment for the limited-edition Hertz edition configuration included performance upgrades, special badging, color scheme, grille finish, and aero treatment.  This Mustang is now offered in Palm Springs, California with a clean CARFAX report and a clean Montana title in the seller’s name.

The Mustang is finished in the Hertz signature black with gold accent stripes down the middle and across the rockers. Additional exterior features include a rear decklid spoiler, front fog lamps, stainless steel dual exhaust tips as part of the GT-H package.  The vehicle is order code 140-A Premium GT Coupe, which was a special configuration in partnership with Hertz Car Rental.  There were 500 such vehicles produced.  The seller indicates that the car has had no prior paint or body work.

Factory 17” five-spoke cast-aluminum wheels are fitted with 235-55-17 Pirelli tires on all four corners.  The braking system setup includes 4-wheel disc brakes, and all GT-H cars were equipped with a Shelby handling package that consists of improved front struts, rear shocks, torsion bars, and a front strut tower brace.

The interior is fitted with dark charcoal leather seats, and the driver seat is 6-way powered.  The standard audio system is a Shaker 500 with MP3 functionality and an in-dash 6-disc CD changer. The vehicle is equipped with cruise control, dual vanity mirrors, and power door locks and windows.

Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,250-rpm redline.  There are also supplementary gauges indicating fuel level and oil pressure.  The six-digit digital odometer shows 21,732 miles, about 2,000 of which have been added by the seller who has owned the vehicle for ten years. The plaque from Shelby Automobiles is affixed on the dash between the central air vents showing CSM #065035.

The 4.6-liter, three-valve, OHC V8 engine was factory rated at 325 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. As part of the GT-H package, each car received a Ford Performance exhaust system with X-pipe, cold air intake, and an ECU flash for an increase of 25 horsepower over a standard Mustang GT. There is an additional Shelby plaque with the CSM number affixed to the core support as well.  The seller indicates that service records are comprised in a book that will be included with the sale.  The vehicle passed a California emissions check in February 2020.

Additional photo of the undercarriage can be viewed in the gallery.

The window sticker shows the original equipment and a total price of $28,490 including destination and delivery. Additional documentation includes the Ford Certificate of origin and Shelby Automobiles, inc. invoice  The clean CARFAX report shows service history at a Ford dealership in Torrance, California.

Quick question. I noticed in reading the Carfax that this vehicle was at the dealer many times to have the electrical system checked. Was there a specific diagnosis? Or are these problems still persistent? Thanks in advance for any information you can share regarding this.

@GT500 – I’ve always liked these cars. Cool story. Does anyone know if they made any manual transmission cars, or were they all automatics? ...

All of the GTH's were automatics to accommodate the largest possible rental customer base. And reduce the number of clutches replaced!
