Vehicle Story

This 1990 Chevrolet K1500 4x4 regular cab shortbed is a well-preserved original pickup with a fresh coat of its original Flame Red paint, a plastic bed liner, and captain’s chair seating. This pickup was sold to its first owner in Wood River, Illinois in February 1990 and resided in that area until being relocated to Colorado in April 2021. Power comes from a 5.7-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission with an Insta-Trac dual-range transfer case and four-wheel drive. Finished in the aforementioned Flame Red over a Garnet cloth interior, this fourth-generation K1500 is now offered with a clean CARFAX report and a clear Colorado title in the seller’s name.

Known internally under the GMT400 codename, the 1988 C/K-Series pickup trucks had slightly smaller cab dimensions than the previous Rounded Line generation but still managed to provide increased interior space. This 1990 K1500 comes in a shortbed, fleetside body style and was subject to a respray in the original Flame Red (81). Brightwork consists of chrome bumpers, grille, sideview mirrors, and fender arch trim which are all noted to be in good condition. A sliding rear window looks out into the bed which features a drop-in plastic liner, and there are 4x4 decals affixed at the trailing sides of the bed.

Machined aluminum 16” six-spoke wheels are wrapped in oversize Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires which were replaced in December 2019. Handling is assisted by power steering and power brakes, and suspension architecture consists of a front stabilizer bar and independent setup up front, with multi-leaf springs in the rear.

The interior is upholstered with seating for two in Garnet cloth with patterned inserts, accompanied by matching door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include a tilt-adjustable steering column, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, tinted windows, a sliding rear window, and an AM/FM/cassette radio.

Instrumentation includes an 85-mph speedometer as well as accompanying gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 104k miles, which is described as an actual reading.

The fuel-injected 5.7-liter V8 was rated at 190 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque when new, and the CARFAX shows an oil change in October 2018. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted 4-speed automatic transmission and an Insta-Trac dual-range transfer case.

Photos showing the underside are available in the gallery.

The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record. There is an open manufacturer safety recall dating back to 1993 regarding automatic transmission fluid containment. A video is available for viewing below.

@Eljefferacing – Hi all. I’m available today for any last minute questions before my truck sells. It has been well cared for and the paint quality is quite good. The interior is immaculate. No known issues. Drives straight and tight. Almost new tires, ready to enjoy and a definite emerging collectible. Good Luck! ...

Was the paint job a $500 dollar or $5,000 job. I have seen older vehicles that look good until you open a door or the hood and see edges or details were not done. I'm just picky and want door jambs to look as good as the ext.
