This 1973 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL is a four-door luxury sedan with long-term family ownership and 35 years of documentation, developing power from a 4.5-liter M117 V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power sunroof, power windows, and a Becker Grand Prix radio. Finished in a recent Blue Metallic repaint over a blue leather interior, this W109 300SEL is now offered with service records back to 2001 and a clear Texas title in the seller’s name.
The W108 and W109 models were available for model years 1972 and 1973 in a four-door sedan body style. This example from the final year was repainted in Blue Metallic in 2020 and has reportedly been garage-kept and accident-free throughout ownership. The exterior features bright accents for the bumper trim, grille, window surrounds mirror caps and side molding beltline trim.
Steel 14” wheels with bright Mercedes-branded covers are wrapped in whitewall tires, and the brakes were replaced in 2019 per the seller.
The interior provides reupholstered blue leather front seating from 2015, currently covered in sheepskin seat covers, complemented by color-matched door panels, dash, and carpeting. Burled walnut trim adorns the dashboard and door panels, and additional amenities include air conditioning, a power-operated sunroof, power windows, and the original Becker Grand Prix head unit with a power-operated antenna. The seller states that the vacuum locks are not currently working, and the interior wood trim on the door panel and the dash has some damage. The trunk has a synthetic rubber liner installed and houses a spare tire.
Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer along with gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 18k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown. The seller notes that the clock on the dash is in working order.
The M117 4.5-liter overhead cam V8 is said to have been well-maintained throughout its life, including work that was performed in 2020 to the power windows and power antenna, and replacement of the air conditioning compressor in 2011. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a 3-speed automatic transmission and a factory limited-slip differential.
The sale includes 20 years of service records and some spare oil filters.
