Vehicle Story

This 1964 Austin-Healy 3000 BJ8 Mk III roadster was the recipient of a professional body-off restoration and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The car is equipped with disc brakes, a new cloth convertible top, and fresh Pacific Green paint over tan leather upholstery. This Mk III shows just under 5,800 miles and is offered with volumes of records and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

A Pacific Green respray was applied as part of the restoration, and a new cloth top was fitted. Chrome treatments include the grille, bumpers, and fender-mounted side-view mirrors, and dual exhaust tips are at the rear.

Factory 15” wire wheels are wrapped in near-new tires, and braking is provided by front discs.

The 2+2 interior is trimmed in new tan leather buckets with dark green piping and glossy wood grain around the instrument cluster and glove box door. The battery, spare tire, jack, and tools are housed in the trunk.

Instrumentation was rebuilt during the restoration and includes a chrome-ringed 140-mph speedometer, 7k tachometer, and gauges for monitoring fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The 5-digit odometer shows approximately 5,800 miles. True mileage is not known.

Power is provided by a dual-carbureted 2.9-liter inline-six that produced a factory-rated 150-hp when new. Thrust is pushed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission.

The sale includes a driver’s handbook, extra parts, and restoration documentation.

@Cas-Am – Hello Brian. Extremely nice restoration . You have called the color Pacific Green, when in actual fact a very similar color was offered on the Healeys from 1961-67, which was #GN1 'Florida Green' . Not a popular choice it seems and few were so painted, so nice to see one in that color. Does it not have overdrive as asked previously? ...

Yes the car is equipped with OD. To switch into OD keep driving at normal speed and flip switch down. No need to let up on gas pedal. Keep constant speed. Works great!

@Jimbo – I didn’t see a mention of an overdrive. Is this an oversight or is there really no overdrive on this BJ8? In my experience, the overdrive is a welcome and useful piece of equipment. And I didn’t remember ever seeing one without it. And I must admit that I also never saw a “D”J8 serial number. ...

A typo has been corrected on the serial number, thank you for bringing this to our attention
