Vehicle Story

This 1982 Jaguar XJ6 luxury sedan features a leather interior with front and rear center armrests and burled walnut woodgrain trim on the dashboard. It comes equipped with automatic climate control with air conditioning, cruise control, power steering, power windows and mirrors, and an AM/FM radio with a cassette player. On the outside, features include rubber bumpers with chrome trim, a Jaguar "leaper" hood ornament, a power sunroof, two-tone 15-inch wheels, Michelin Harmony tires, two fuel caps, and dual exhaust outlets. Power is supplied by a 4.2-liter inline-six engine connected to a 3-speed automatic transmission. Finished in blue over tan, this Series III XJ6 is available now and comes with an owner's manual, a clean Carfax report, and a clear California title.

The Pininfarina-designed steel body is dressed in blue with full-length pinstriping on both sides. The front end features a Jaguar "leaper" hood ornament and a grille with vertical vanes set in between two pairs of round headlights. More brightwork accents the mirror caps, greenhouse glass, and door handles. At the rear, there are two fuel caps and dual outboard exhaust finishers. Both ends of the car are equipped with side marker lights and chrome-trimmed black rubber bumpers.

Two-tone 15-inch wheels with Jaguar "growler" center caps are fitted with Michelin Harmony tires.

The cabin is furnished with tan carpeting and floor mats, matching leather seats and door panels, and a black dashboard with a burled walnut fascia. It comes equipped with automatic climate control with air conditioning, cruise control, an adjustable steering column, power steering, power windows and mirrors, and an AM/FM radio with a cassette player and door-mounted speakers. Additional features include a lockable glovebox with a vanity mirror, an HVAC vent for rear passengers, a front center console with a storage compartment, and a fold-down center armrest in the second row.

Instrumentation consists of a 5,500-rpm tachometer, an 85-mph speedometer, warning lights for various vehicle systems, and gauges for the oil pressure, voltage, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 19,853 miles, and this figure is supported by the CARFAX and believed to be true per the seller. The CARFAX shows 19,832 miles in 2009, and in 2010 or 2011 when the seller acquired the car, the selling dealer asserted that the mileage was true and correct. The car has been stored as part of a large collection and hardly driven since.

The front-hinged hood covers a naturally aspirated DOHC 4.2-liter I6 engine, which sends its power to the road through a BorgWarner 3-speed automatic and a 2.88:1 rear end. The seller has had the car for the last year and a half and in that time has changed the oil and other fluids, battery, fuel pump, and fuel filters.

The car rides on a fully independent suspension with an anti-sway bar in the front and shocks and coil springs at both ends. Power disc brakes at all four corners help bring the car to a stop. Additional photos of the underbody are available in the picture gallery to the right.

An owner's manual is included with the sale of the car.
