Vehicle Story

This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS is finished in orange over a black interior and is powered by a 396ci V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission.  First acquired by the seller 8 years ago, it was initially delivered to a Chevrolet dealership in Anaheim California in late 1968 where it spent its entire life in California until 2018 when it was relocated to Arizona. It was fully restored under current ownership and has been inspected and certified by Jerry MacNiesh of Camaro Hi-Performance, Inc as a genuine Camaro SS 396 4-speed. Equipment includes power steering, power brakes, bucket seats, vintage look radio, and a cowl-induction hood.  Located in Chandler, Arizona this Camaro is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Finished in Hugger Orange with a black vinyl roof from the factory, it was subject to a frame-off restoration by the current owner. The body features Super Sport options such as a black hockey stick style stripe down the sides, a black grille as well as a painted black tail panel, and a raised cowl hood. Badging includes "SS" monikers on the tail panel and grille, with "396" emblems on the fenders. During the restoration, the windshield was replaced, but the rest of the glass is factory original to the car. Additional features include T3 headlamps, trunk lip spoiler, and dual exhaust.

The car rides on factory 15” Rally wheels with polished trim rings and center caps. The wheels are mounted on BF Goodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires on all four corners, with a full-size spare tire and jack equipment in the trunk. Braking is handled by power-assisted discs in the front with drums in the rear.

The interior features black vinyl bucket seats, with matching carpet, dashboard, and door panels.  Woodgrain accents are featured on the dash and steering wheel as well as the center console, which houses the Hurst Shifter for the 4-speed transmission and auxiliary gauges. The factory stereo was replaced with a vintage-looking unit from Custom Autosound with Bluetooth phone and audio capability and USB connectivity.

Instrumentation includes a 120-speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer in the instrument cluster along with an analog clock.  Auxiliary gauges on the center console display information on voltage, coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure.  The five-digit odometer reads 50k miles, of which about 2k miles have been added by the seller over eight years of ownership.

The original L35 396ci V8 was removed prior to the seller's acquisition of the car, now, it is currently equipped with a date code correct 396ci V8 built to L34 350 horsepower specs with a mild camshaft and steel crankshaft. Power is transferred to a 12-bolt rear end through a Muncie M-21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. During the restoration, both the transmission was rebuilt, along with the rear end which retains the original 4:10 gear ratio.  The engine retains stock appearance minus the exhaust headers added for improved performance as well.  A period alarm was installed by the selling dealer, complete with a red alarm bell installed on the left inner fender with key activation hidden in the left front fender well.

The underside was fully restored and painted during the restoration, additional photos have been provided in the gallery.

The sale includes photos, sales literature, car show display sign, as well as a certificate and inspection from Camaro Hi-Performance, the NCRS Shipping report and a reproduction window sticker.

AUTOHUNTER ADMIN UPDATE 10/26/20 1:00PM: Photos of the report from Camaro Hi-Performance, display sign and of the reproduction window label have been added to the end of the gallery
