Vehicle Story

This 1968 Jeep CJ-5 4WD has been single-family-owned since new and is described as having 37,333 original miles, benefitting from a recent frame-off restoration that included a replacement body tub, new front fenders, and a reinforced underbody. Power for this sport utility vehicle comes from a 225ci Dauntless V6 paired with a 3-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case. Finished in two-tone turquoise and white over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, this CJ-5 is now offered with a clear Indiana title in the seller’s name.

The original CJ-Series Jeep models date back to the mid-1940s, and the CJ-5 variant rolled out in 1954. This CJ-5 example was manufactured by the Kaiser Jeep Corporation in Toledo, Ohio and subsequently subject to a frame-off restoration over the last two years which applied a repaint in its original two-tone color scheme of turquoise and white. Extensive work was carried out on the infrastructure, including replacement of the body tub and front fenders, as well as frame reinforcement and other repairs. The body is described as being rust-free, featuring black-finished front and rear bumpers, dual sideview mirrors, and a full-size spare tire mounted at the passenger side rear quarter.

White-painted steel wheels are mounted to newer Goodyear Wrangler tires. The brakes and brake lines were replaced as part of the restoration.

The interior is fitted with reupholstered black vinyl bucket seats and body-colored metal surfaces. A newer AM/FM/CD radio is installed near the glove compartment, and turn signals have been added. A black rubber flooring material has been installed in the footwells.

Instrumentation includes a chrome-rimmed cluster with a 90-mph speedometer and accompanying gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. Two smaller standalone additional gauges provide input on oil pressure and voltage, and the five-digit odometer reads 37,333 miles, which the seller asserts is an actual reading.

The 225ci Dauntless V6 was factory rated at 155 horsepower and is topped by a chrome-finished air cleaner. The motor received new fluids and a replacement heater core within the last two years, and the seller states that there are no known current issues with the drivetrain. Power is directed to all four wheels via a 3-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case.
