Vehicle Story

This 1966 Pontiac LeMans two-door hardtop receives power from a Pontiac Firebird-sourced 400ci V8 that has been recently serviced and features a performance camshaft, sending power to the rear via an automatic transmission with a console-mounted shift gate. This LeMans comes from long-term California ownership history, having spent 20 years with the seller and displaying a largely unmodified condition. Finished in two-tone Blue Nassau Silver Metallic with an ivory vinyl roof over an ivory vinyl interior, this second-generation LeMans is now offered with service records, the car’s original 326ci V8 motor, the original 2-speed transmission, spare parts as described below, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.

The second-generation LeMans was launched in 1964 as an intermediate-sized car on General Motors’ A-platform. This example from two years later wears a two-door hardtop body style with characteristic stacked quad headlamps, split grille, and a flying buttress rear profile. The exterior finish is resprayed in Blue Nassau Silver Metallic and features a refurbished ivory vinyl top. Brightwork includes the front and rear bumpers, rocker panel moldings, window trim, side view mirrors, a full-width taillight bezel, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller adds that there is corrosion around the seal of the rear window, photos can be seen in the gallery.

Chrome-finished smooth wheels are wrapped in tires with good tread life remaining.

The interior offers ivory vinyl fold-forward low-back bucket seats, color-matched to the door panels and contrasted with black lap belts, a full-length center console, dash, and carpeting. The dash is topped by a carpeted mat and features a push-button radio with heater controls, and the trunk is lined in a vinyl mat with a matching cover for the spare tire. Photos show the headliner by the rear window is falling.

Instrumentation includes a series of round gauges in a black bezel, featuring a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. A gauge pod is mounted below the underside of the dash with three additional aftermarket readouts. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 79k miles.

The replacement Pontiac Firebird-sourced 400ci V8 was installed in 2006 and has a chrome-finished air cleaner, having been bored out and featuring a performance camshaft. The seller states that an oil change was performed within the last few months, and the water pump hose has a small leak currently. Power is fed to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission and a console-mounted shift lever.

The sale includes service records, the car’s original California black and yellow license plates, and spare parts including the car’s original 2-speed transmission, 326ci V8 motor, grill parts, taillamps, nose cone, and more.
