Vehicle Story

This 1972 Chevrolet Corvette features removable Targa tops, full gauges, and positraction rear axle, powered by a 350ci L48 V8 backed by a close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. The C3 was reportedly sold new at Waling-Cutting Motors in Delavan, Wisconsin and was subsequently treated to a restoration that included a respray in the original Targa Blue as well as refurbishment of the black vinyl interior. This Corvette is now offered with a Protect-O-Plate and a clear Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.

The third-generation Corvette was launched in 1968 and became known under the Stingray nameplate. 1972 was the last year for chrome front and rear bumpers, and this example from that model year was the recipient of a detailed restoration effort with a repaint in Targa Blue (970). The exterior features pop-up headlamps, vented front fenders, and removable color-matched Targa tops. Brightwork is featured for the front and rear bumpers, rocker panel molding, side view mirrors, window trim, and dual polished exhaust outlets at the rear.

Steel 15” Rallye wheels with polished trim rings and bright center caps are wrapped in newer Michelin tires, and handling is assisted by power steering.

The interior was refurbished as part of the restoration, receiving reupholstered Black (400) vinyl bucket seats, matched to the door panels, dash, center console, and carpeting. Amenities include shoulder safety belts, Stingray-embroidered floor mats, and a push-button radio.

Instrumentation is delivered in the form of a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges in the center stack for an analog clock, fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads just under 33k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The numbers-matching 350ci L48 V8 is mounted in a matte black engine bay and features a bright-finished air cleaner and a heavy-duty battery. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission and a positraction rear axle.

The sale includes a Protect-O-Plate.
