Vehicle Story

This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air was recently the recipient of a ground-up restoration and has been driven approximately 400 miles since completion. Power comes from a 283ci small-block V8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission and the car comes complete with an interior overhaul to original specifications, a fresh repaint, custom American Racing wheels, new brightwork, and a new exhaust system. Located in Chesaning, Michigan, this Bel Air is offered with restoration documentation and a clear Michigan title in the seller's name.

Restoration work included a complete repaint in the car's original color scheme of Dusty Rose (2466) with an Ivory White (2003/694) top. Stainless brightwork was replaced all around and new chrome bumpers were installed front and rear with a factory chrome grille to match. The dual exhaust system is new as well and exits at two turn-downs under the rear bumper.

Steering and braking systems are mechanical and the latter features of 4-wheel drums behind a set of chrome 5-spoke American Racing wheels wrapped in fresh rubber. The suspension consists of an independent coil-sprung front end and solid axle rear on leaf springs.

An interior refurbishment was completed in line with the rest of the build and performed with originality in mind. The cabin features two-tone black and silver upholstery over bench seating, with color-matching doors and headliner. A Hurst shifter rises up through black carpeting which is contrasted by stainless hardware and a body-matched dash. Equipment includes a heater/defroster, AM radio, dash-mounted analog clock, and manually cranked windows.

Instrumentation is framed by a factory 2-spoke steering wheel and includes a 120-mph speedometer centered between dials for fuel level and coolant temperature. Mileage on the 5-digit odometer is currently unknown but the seller reports approximately 400 miles have been driven since the engine was rebuilt.

The engine bay is home to a 283ci V8 powerplant which has been bored .030 over and it is mated to Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. Fresh Chevrolet orange paint was applied to the long block and intake manifold with a new 4-barrel carburetor and alternator to top off the build.

Condition of the underside and the new exhaust system can be observed above and in additional photos located in the gallery.

Photos of the restoration are available in the carousel.

@Eggenfamilyclassics – Sir does this car have PS and/or PB? Thanks ...

Per the seller, the car does not have power steering or power brakes, but notes that it is "easy" to handle.

Dusty Rose color is stunning! This looks like the last family car my dad had (rip) and surely caught all our neighbors eyes! I’ll be watching this auction closely! Looks like an xlnt restoration!
