This 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL convertible has driven 62,071 miles since new and is powered by a 5.6-liter V8 coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission. This SL resided long-term in the southeast until being relocated to Texas in early 2020, and it comes with a retractable soft top as well as a color-matched hardtop. The interior was completely refurbished with replacement upholstery, door panels, woodgrain trim, and a shift knob. Finished in navy blue over a new gray leather interior, this R107 560SL is now offered with a clean CARFAX report, service documentation, a hardtop stand, the original Becker radio, a car cover, and a clear Texas title in the seller’s name.
Dating back to model year 1971, the R107-chassis Mercedes-Benz SL has a two-door convertible body design with a removable hardtop as well as a cloth retractable top. This example from 1989 is painted navy blue with a faint gray pinstripe and features a color-matched cloth top with plastic rear windows, in addition to the color-matched hardtop. The exterior is noted to be in good condition, featuring fog lamps, bright bumpers with guards, a single exhaust outlet, and a trunk-mounted third brake lamp. The seller notes that there are two small tears in the lining of the hardtop.
Silver-painted 15” Gullideckel alloy wheels are wrapped in 205/65-sized Michelin tires. Handling is provided by an independent suspension, and braking is provided by four-wheel anti-lock discs.
The interior is fitted with reupholstered gray leather bucket seats and armrests, corresponding to matching MB-Tex material for the door panels and boot lid. The gray carpeting and black floor mats were replaced in both the cabin and the trunk, and the burlwood trim for the console and shift knob are new as well. Equipment includes power windows, power door locks, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a newer Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo. The original Becker radio is included with the sale.
Instrumentation is provided by a 170-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and instantaneous fuel economy. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 62,071 miles, which the seller asserts is a true reading.
The M117 5.5-liter V8 was factory rated at 227 horsepower and 287 lb-ft of torque, and recent maintenance included an oil change in 2020. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission and a console-mounted shift lever.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The CARFAX report is free of mention of any accidents or damage. The sale includes documentation, a car cover, the hardtop stand, MB first aid kit, and the original Becker Grand Prix radio.
ADMIN UPDATE: A photo has been added to show the locking mechanism for the convertible top.
