This 1964.5 Ford Mustang convertible comes from 21 years of ownership with the seller, having undergone a recent tune-up, a start rebuild, and replacement of the fuel filter which feeds the 260ci Windsor V8 paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. This first-year Mustang received a restoration including a repaint in Green Metallic, replacement of the beige retractable top, and a reupholstered beige vinyl interior with a full center console. This Mustang is now offered with build receipts, a car cover, and a clear New Jersey title in the seller’s name.
This Mustang was repainted Green Metallic as part of a restoration, and the resulting finishes are reported to be corrosion-free with good fitment, having been garage kept throughout the seller’s 21-year ownership. Exterior brightwork includes the bumpers grille, window trim, and emblems, and the seller notes that this Mustang is badged as a 289ci although it remains powered by a 260ci motor. The seller has included detailed imaging showing three scratches on the exterior, including one on the passenger rear quarter, one on the passenger door, and one on the top of the passenger front quarter.
Steel 14” wheels with wire covers and spinner caps are wrapped in whitewall tires that are roughly 20 years in age and due for replacement. The brakes and brake lines were recently replaced, and the seller notes that the emergency brake does not hold well.
The interior is configured with reupholstered beige vinyl fold-forward bucket seats, color-matched to the door panels and lower dash, contrasted by a black upper portion, lap safety belts, and carpeting. A full-length center console with bright trim splits the cabin, and embroidered floor mats have been installed in the footwells. Amenities include a radio and a plaid vinyl trunk mat with a matching duffel bag.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 56k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The F-code 260ci Windsor V8. Recent maintenance has included a tune-up, an oil change, a rebuild of the starter, replacement of the fuel filter, and a new battery. Previously, attention was also directed toward a generator and carburetor rebuild as well as replacement of the belts and spark plugs. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a 3-speed manual transmission.
The sale includes a car cover and receipts for work performed.

@Vpn57 – Hello. I’m in NJ. Can I come and take a look in person before the auction ends? ...
Did you get to see the car first hand?
BID: $18,400
Nice car. If it’s a true 1964 1/2, it should have a generator rather than an alternator. “Dummy” light on dash should illuminate as Generator .

@Lewis15 – Can you tell me why does the emblem say 289 on the fender instead of 260 ? It is clearly according to the Vin# a 260 . ...
Hi, when I purchased the car from a dealer over 20years ago it was badged as a 289. When I researched the VIN prior to selling, it showed the car as a 260 so that’s how I’m listing it. The motor ID is under the exhaust manifold with other engine components in the way so I’m unable to confirm which engine it is so I went with the smaller of the two.
@PonyExcess – the first run of Mustang production are referred to as 64 1/2 because they made changes halfway through the production run in 65. So most cars actually produced in 1964 are slightly different than the ones produced in 1965 despite all being a 65 model year ...
The title does show 1964
@Vpn57 – Does this vehicle have AC. Power breaks and steering? ...
Hi, it does not have a/c, power brakes or steering.
@onetimedave – What year is on the title? Ford never titled a Mustang 1964 1/2. If indeed it is a 1964 then why is it listed as a '641/2? ...
