Vehicle Story

This 1971 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible is presented as one of 1,949 units powered by a numbers-matching LT-1 350ci Turbo-Fire V8, having driven fewer than 18,000 miles since new and retaining original, factory-correct specifications for the bodywork, interior, and engine bay. A console-shifted Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission directs power to a positraction rear end, and drivetrain maintenance has been brought up to date with work performed on the suspension, exhaust, and braking system. Finished in Bridgehampton Blue over a Dark Blue vinyl interior, this C3 Corvette is now offered with service records and a clear South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The Corvette grew into its third generation beginning in 1967, modeled after the Mako Shark II Concept. For 1970, revisions were made to the body that incorporated a new egg-crate grille, matching side fender vents, and subtle changes to the lighting systems. This drop-top example from the subsequent year is painted in Bridgehampton Blue (979), offset by a white cloth retractable top. The exterior is described as being rust-free and original, with optimal gloss, panel fitment, and lines throughout. Brightwork is featured for the bumpers, windshield surround, side view mirrors, and rocker panels, complemented by a trunk-mounted luggage rack and a dual exhaust system at the rear.

Rallye 15” wheels with polished trim rings are mounted to Firestone Wide Oval raised-white-letter F70 tires all the way around. Handling is assisted by power steering, and the suspension architecture consists of an independent front and rear with a sway bar, outfitted with power disc brakes and newly-replaced brake lines.

The interior offers bucket seating for two, fitted with Dark Blue (412) vinyl upholstery and matching materials for the lap belts, door panels, center console, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include a factory push-button radio, tinted glass, a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, and a trunk-mounted spare tire and holder. The seller notes that the clock works intermittently.

Instrumentation includes full gauges, dominated by a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer and accompanied by readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 17,959 miles, which the seller asserts is a true reading.

The numbers-matching LT-1 350ci V8 is topped by a chrome-finished air cleaner with factory-correct 350 Turbo Fire decals and received a Holley four-barrel carburetor cleaning in March 2018. Other maintenance to note per the seller has included replacement of the exhaust, master cylinder, fan clutch, bushings, and more. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission and a positraction rear differential with 4.11:1 gearing.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes service records.

@71vette – there are a couple of photos of the bumpers. what exactly are you looking for. Captchet ...

This is perfect. I always get a kick out a blurred plates. Of course ever time you drive the car, only a few hundred people see the plate, and it you park it that could approach a 1000. But when selling, sellers hide it. But I get it, just makes me chuckle. Nice photo!
