This 1949 Packard Super Eight sedan was previously an exhibit in a California museum and was then sold to a Texas buyer who owned it for several years. It has now been with its current owner for a year. In 2010, it received a restoration that included factory-correct paint and interior fabric, fresh chrome, and new tires. This Packard features a chrome grille, front and rear bumpers, headlight rings, hood ornament , and badging, as well as a set of American Classic whitewall tires. The cabin is furnished with front and rear cloth bench seats, a three-on-the-tree manual transmission with overdrive, and woodgrain accents on the door panels and dashboard. Now available for sale, this 7,800-mile Packard comes with a clear title in the owner's name, a new indoor cover from California Car Cover, and manuals and documentation from the previous owner.
As part of its 2010 restoration, this Packard Super Eight sedan was repainted in its factory tan color and given new chrome, which highlights areas such as the grille, bumpers, headlight rings, and front and rear windshields. The "Goddess of Speed" hood ornament protrudes over the end of the tapered hood. According to the current owner, all of the glass is original on this car except the driver's door glass, which was replaced in November of 2020.
The body sides feature a strip of chrome trim that runs from the front fenders to the rear fenders over a set of American Classic whitewall tires and rear fender skirts. The current owner reports there is a small spot of rust on one of the wheel covers. Chrome letters spell out "Packard" on the trunk, which is flanked by chrome-ringed oval taillights. A chrome exhaust tip exits below the passenger side of the rear bumper.
This Packard's restoration also gave it new interior fabric. That covers the front and rear bench seats, as well as the door panels and door armrests. The two-spoke steering wheel sits in front of the three-on-the-tree shifter for the gearbox, which is connected to a set of oval and plank-style pedals.
Woodgrain trim covers the tops of the door panels and dashboard. Instrumentation includes a clock, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, speedometer, and odometer. All of the equipment is operational, but the current owner notes that the original radio does not function.
Under the hood is a straight eight-cylinder engine, which received new spark plugs and fluids in November of 2020. According to the current owner, it cranks immediately and runs well. That is connected to a 3-speed manual transmission. During this Packard's 2020 service, the gearbox's overdrive was rebuilt.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
A new indoor cover from California Car Cover, manuals, parts catalogues and documents from the previous come with the purchase of this Packard sedan.
