Vehicle Story

This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air comes from the first model year of the car's second generation, otherwise known as the "Tri-Five" series of Bel Airs, that ran from 1955 through 1957. It comes dressed in teal green and white paint, chrome bumpers and trim, and five-spoke wheels wrapped in tires that were replaced in April of this year. The interior features a dashboard in the same two-tone color scheme as the exterior, black first- and second-row bench seating, and auxiliary gauges. Power comes from a 383ci V8 "stroker" engine, which is connected to a Flowmaster exhaust and sends its power through a Muncie 4-speed manual gearbox. Currently located in Ellenwood, Georgia, this rust-free 1955 Bel Air is available for sale with a clean title, an engine build sheet, dynamometer results, and receipts from the current owner's time with the car, which dates back to November of 2020.

When Chevrolet marketed the 1955 Bel Air, it referred to the new model as the "Hot One." The body of this particular second-generation car wears a combination of teal green and white paint which is in perfect condition, according to the seller. Chrome trim highlights areas that include the plane hood ornament, front and rear bumpers, headlight rings, egg-crate grille, body sides, and taillights.

This Bel Air rides on a set of chrome five-spoke wheels and new tires that were put on in April of 2021. The dual pipes for the Flowmaster exhaust system jut out from under the chrome rear bumper.

The cabin repeats the teal green and white color scheme of the exterior on the dashboard; the exposed metal on the door panels has been painted to match the teal green of the bodywork. A plate with the VIN is attached to the inside of the driver's doorjamb. Seating is provided by black front and rear bench seats. Controls include a two-spoke steering wheel, metal Hurst T-handle shifter, oval and plank-shaped pedals, and volume and tuning knobs for the radio.

There is a 110-mph speedometer behind the steering wheel, but the current owner notes that it is not operational because the cables are not connected yet. Other instrumentation includes readouts for the fuel level and temperature and a trio of auxiliary gauges below the climate control switchgear.

Under the hood is a 383ci V8 "stroker" engine from White Performance that produces 525 horsepower. It has 300 miles on it and is equipped with an MSD ignition control module, high-performance starter, electric fuel pump, and 3-core radiator with electric fan. A Muncie 4-speed manual transmission helps this Bel Air apply its power to the pavement.

One of the pictures in the photo gallery shows a close-up view of some of the hardware under this Bel Air.

The current owner notes that they have an engine build sheet, a disc of the V8 engine running on a dynamometer, and the receipts associated with their ownership of the car to go with it.

@AuctionHunter – @ZKey1955 Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I don't see the cold start video you mentioned posted with your pictures, so not sure who you sent the video to. Can you answer any of the questions I asked previously? Also, do you have any documentation or knowledge of the history of the car? It looks very nice from a distance (pics), but additional information would be very helpful to potential buyers. ...

The video is at the bottom of the gallery of photos, hope that helps and happy bidding!
