This 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 has been customized with 17” aluminum wheels, Edelbrock carburetors, and a two-tone reupholstered red and black vinyl interior with matching floor mats. The ram air hood opens up to a 351ci Windsor V8 which sends power to a C6 3-speed automatic transmission and a positraction rear end. The seller has owned the vehicle for three years and indicates that maintenance is up to date, having received a tune-up as recently as 2020. Finished in black with red accents and rear window louvers, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with service records, shop manuals, parts catalogs, and a clear Louisiana title in the seller’s name.
Following its initial debut in the mid-1960s, the Mustang pony car went through a series of cosmetic changes as it entered the subsequent decade. In 1971, the Mustang grew by 3” in width and was offered in various body styles. This Mach 1 from the following year was repainted under prior ownership in black with red complementary accents for the hood as well as hockey-stick side striping. The body is described as being rust-free and features a ram air hood, front and rear spoilers, Mach 1 fender decals, color-keyed sport mirrors, rear window louvers, and a dual exhaust system at the rear. The seller notes that the key lock cylinders on the doors need to be adjusted.
Five-spoke polished aluminum American Racing 17” wheels are wrapped in Nexen tires. Handling is assisted by both power steering and power brakes.
The interior is fitted with reupholstered two-tone red and black vinyl high-back bucket seats with black accents, tied in with the materials for the door panels, center console, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include woodgrain door panel trim, air conditioning, custom Mustang-branded floor mats, a push-button radio, and a newer audio system with four speakers. The seller states that the dash clock is inoperative.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and additional gauges located in the center stack for oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 16k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 351ci Windsor V8 is equipped with Edelbrock 600-cfm carburetors, factory cast heads, and an electronic ignition system. A tune-up, inspection, and carburetor seal replacement were performed in 2020, and power is sent to the rear wheels via a C6 automatic transmission and a 9” positraction rear end with a 3.00:1 gear ratio.
