Vehicle Story

This 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been driven 15,000 miles since new and is powered by a supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter V8 backed by a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. This GT500 was originally sold from York Ford in Saugus, Massachusetts in March of its model year and remained in that region until being relocated to Florida in summer 2017 where it has remained since, having been owned by the seller for the last six years. Maintenance is up to date with a Ford dealership service performed in August 2021 and equipment includes a Barton short-throw shifter, a Carroll Shelby signed placard and a limited-slip rear differential. Finished in Torch Red with white stripes over a black leather interior, this fifth-generation Mustang is now offered with the original shifter, the original exhaust, records dating back to 2015, a CARFAX report with a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.

Beginning in 2005, the fifth-generation Mustang pony car adopted the S-197 chassis code and styling reminiscent of the fastback models of the late 1960s. In 2007, Ford’s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) division launched the Shelby GT500 as a successor to the Mustang SVT Cobra. This GT500 from 2008 has an aluminum hood with air extractors, wearing Torch Red paint with dual white accent stripes and GT500 branding on the lower sills. Exterior equipment includes fog lamps, fender-mounted Cobra emblems, and a rear decklid spoiler.

Polished aluminum 18” SVT-branded wheels are mounted to staggered-width Goodyear Eagle F1 tires with good tread life remaining. The suspension is comprised of a live axle rear setup with model-specific strut towers to accommodate the 5.4-liter engine, and braking is handled by 14” discs up front with four-piston Brembo calipers, and 11.8” discs in the rear with single-piston calipers. Traction control and anti-lock braking came as standard equipment on this model.

The interior is upholstered with black leather bucket seats with the embossed Cobra logo. There is a Carroll Shelby Mustang (CSM) numbered placard affixed to the dash, and a plaque signed by Shelby himself. Amenities include power convenience options, cruise control, air conditioning, tinted windows, a Barton short-throw shifter, and a factory Shaker 1,000-watt stereo with a six-disc CD changer.

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for boost pressure, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The digital odometer reads 15k miles, which the seller asserts is a true original reading.

The supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter V8 wears a signed placard by the technicians who assembled it, and the motor has been rated at 697 horsepower at the flywheel per the seller. Recent maintenance per the CARFAX report has included a service and maintenance inspection by Englewood Ford in August 2021, and an oil and filter change by the same dealership in June 2020. The seller states that the car currently has a check engine light illuminated. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission and a 3.73:1 limited-slip differential.

AUTOHUNTER ADMIN UPDATE 8/13: The seller notes that the vehicle was taken to the local Ford dealership this week and the code for the check engine light was diagnosed and cleared.

The CARFAX report illustrates an accident and damage-free history. The sale includes the car’s original shifter and original exhaust, as well as records dating back to 2015.
