1987 Mercedes Benz 300SDL

This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300SDL was originally sold in Ohio and subsequently moved to New York in 2009 where it has resided since. It is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-6 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 300SDL is the diesel-based, long-wheelbase variant of Mercedes-Benz's W126 S-class, featuring an additional 5.5" of length over the standard-wheelbase variant. Equipment includes a power sunroof and an upgraded audio system. This 300 SDL is now offered with a CARFAX report and on a clean New York title in the seller’s name.

Finished in Desert Tan, exterior equipment includes an electric sunroof, heat-insulating glass, headlamp washers and wipers, and chrome trim on the bumpers and window surrounds. The seller notes that there is a small rust bubble near the rear passenger wheel well about the size of a half dollar but states the car is otherwise rust-free. The CARFAX report shows an accident from September 1994 but there are no other mentions of incidents or damage.

Factory equipped Gullideckel 15” wheels are mounted to brand new Yokohama Avid Touring tires sized 205/65 on all four corners. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs, with recently replaced pads and rotors all around, along with new front brake lines.

The interior is fitted with power-adjustable dark brown leather seats with a center armrest between the front buckets. Brown carpeting matches the dash, door panels, and headliner. Woodgrain trim is featured on the dash, door panels, and center console. The long-wheelbase SDL featured an additional 5.5″ of length overall providing additional legroom for rear-seat passengers.  The seller indicates that the driver’s door lock does not work, and the air conditioning intermittently cuts out.

Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer along with fuel, coolant temperature, and oil pressure gauges.  An analog clock and a digital exterior thermometer are also within the gauge cluster. The six-digit odometer reads 140k miles, of which 35k have been added by the seller over 12 years of ownership.  An aftermarket Blaupunkt BPV660 CD player head unit with remote control was installed in place of the factory unit.

The 3.0-liter OM603 straight-6 turbodiesel engine was factory rated at 148 hp and 201 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance includes an oil change, new air filter, and replacement of the glow plug for the #6 cylinder, performed 1,500 miles ago. Additionally the battery was replaced within the last year.
