This 1978 Jeep CJ-5 has been owned by the same person since January of 1981. Restored twice, the first restoration, completed in 1999; the second, finished in 2015 and since then, it has only accumulated 478 miles. Its fiberglass body wears 2013 Jeep-correct Crush orange paint and features parts from a variety of Jeeps, from CJ's to YJ and modern Wranglers. Inside the cabin, there is a pair of front bucket seats and an aftermarket stereo head unit. This CJ-5 is equipped with a set of 15-inch Ion wheels wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. The 258ci AMC inline 6-cylinder engine under the hood features a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and Hedman headers all coupled to a 3-speed manual gearbox to send its power to the road. Available now, this CJ-5 comes with a clear title in the seller's name as well as service records, documents, and receipts.
The CJ-5 generation of Jeep vehicles ran for nearly 30 years, lasting from 1955 until 1983. The fiberglass body of this Crush orange with black trim CJ-5 is comprised of parts from multiple vehicles, some of which are modern Jeeps. It is based on a CJ-5 tub. The fenders and hood were sourced from a 1995 Wrangler. The fender flares were once part of a 2006 model. The rear bumper was originally attached to a 1986 Suzuki Samurai. All of that sits on top of a set of 15-inch Ion brand wheels inside 33-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/As.
External equipment includes dual hood latches, black tube steps, padded roll bar, vinyl top, and exposed gas cap.
The cabin is dressed in a combination of black and exposed metal painted the same Crush orange as the exterior. It is outfitted with a pair of bucket seats with headrests. In between those is a center console with dual cup holders. Also on the list of equipment is a 3-spoke steering wheel with column-mounted ignition, T-handle shift knob, aftermarket radio head unit, and passenger-side grab handle.
During its second restoration, this CJ-5 received a Factory Air climate control system. According to the seller, the fuel gauge and the heat do not work. The speedometer functions, but the new instrument cluster reportedly has a wiring issue. Although the AC is operational, it needs to be recharged in order to blow cold air.
This CJ-5 draws its power from a 258ci AMC I6 engine. Fuel and air are handled by a Clifford Performance intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor. A GM high energy ignition (HEI) system, and set of Hedman headers take car of the ignition and exhaust. It sends its power through a 3-speed manual transmission and AMC Model 20 rear end.
The seller reports that this CJ-5 rides on the suspension from a 1995 Jeep Wrangler and has a 1-piece axle assembly.
The engine's oil was changed in June of 2021. Photos of the restoration can be found in the gallery.
