This 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am shows under 42,500 miles and is one of 7,099 produced for the model year equipped with the WX-code 455ci high output engine. A restoration recipient, the car is powered by the rebuilt original 455ci V8 which is bolted to the optional M214 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. A long list of options and features includes a radial tuned suspension, heavy-duty rear differential, disc brakes, power steering, a rear defroster, custom dash, AM/FM radio with Bluetooth connectivity, and more. Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, this Trans Am is offered with a new headliner and carpet and a clear Minnesota title in the seller's name.
A professional respray in the factory Polaris Blue (Code 35) was applied during the restoration process as were all-new factory-correct decals. Exterior features include a Shaker hood, flared fenders, and a rear ducktail spoiler. The seller reports the paint shows no visible signs of rust or bubbling and states that all weather stripping and window sweeps have been replaced.
Power steering and power 4-wheel disc brakes handle a new set of 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires mounted on a replacement set of 15" Trans Am Snowflake wheels. The car rides on Pontiac's own radial tuned suspension which consists of a leaf-sprung heavy-duty, solid rear axle with positraction, aftermarket traction bars, and a coil-sprung independent suspension in front.
The interior has been refinished as part of the restoration and comes outfitted in black vinyl upholstery with a matching black dash, doors, headliner, and carpeting. Stainless trim and hardware can be found throughout and are reported to be original to the car, as are the door panels, which the seller states do show some minor evidence of wear and tear. Equipment includes an aftermarket AM/FM radio with Bluetooth functionality, a tilt steering column, the optional rear defroster, and cruise control. Air conditioning is not available, but the car is equipped with the plumbing from the factory. The trunk is finished in speckle paint.
Instrumentation framed by a leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel consists of a 100-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and dials for fuel level, battery voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The machine-turned aluminum gauge set is functional, including the 5-digit odometer which shows under 42,500 miles.
The engine bay is home to the recently rebuilt original and numbers-matching WX-code 455ci high output V8 which has been bored out and a cam added. The engine is paired with a factory-optional M214 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter and a heavy-duty rear differential with positraction. Modifications consist of an electric fan for the radiator and a new dual exhaust.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
