This 1971 Ford Mustang Mach I received a restoration in 2020 including a fresh repaint, an overhauled braking system, a Dynamat-insulated and reupholstered interior, and drivetrain upgrades. Power is pulled from a numbers-matching 351ci Cleveland V8 backed by a replacement 4-speed manual transmission. The seller has owned the vehicle for three years and has included hyperlinks to two music videos in which it was featured. Finished in black over a reupholstered two-tone black and gray vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with service records and a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.
For model year 1971, the first-generation Mustang pony car grew in both length and width from its predecessor and was offered as a hardtop, a fastback, and a convertible. This example was subject to an inside-and-out restoration in 2020 and was repainted black over a reportedly rust-free body. Lighting was enhanced with LED running lights, side markers, and taillights. Features include body-colored bumpers, dual hood air intakes and retention pins, a lower front chin spoiler, sport sideview mirrors, and dual polished exhaust outlets at the rear.
Chrome Chip Foose Knuckle 17” aluminum wheels are mounted to staggered-width BFGoodrich tires. The braking system has been overhauled with a replacement master cylinder, hoses, and lines.
The interior was fully refurbished and Dynamat sound-insulated from top to bottom, featuring reupholstered two-tone black and vinyl bucket seats up front, black door panels, black carpeting, and a replacement headliner. The dash lighting has been upgraded to LED, the window gaskets were replaced, and a newer Bluetooth-enabled Pioneer radio was installed with along with a power antenna. Features include a Hurst shift lever, a Mustang-embossed trunk mat, and full gauges. Some air conditioning equipment is present with exception of brackets, a condenser, and lines.
A three-spoke leather-wrapped Lecarra steering wheel frames instrumentation which includes a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and a fuel gauge. Ancillary gauges are mounted at the top of the center stack for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 38k miles, which the seller states is 138k.
The numbers-matching 351ci Cleveland V8 has been bored .30 over and features an MSD ignition system and powder-coated intake and valve covers. An oil change was performed in March 2021, the Optima battery is new, and additional recent maintenance included a change to the differential fluid, transmission fluid, clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. This Mach 1 was factory-outfitted as an automatic car but has been converted to a 4-speed manual transmission, with power directed to the rear wheels via a positraction rear end.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The vehicle has been featured in music videos for Rodney Atkins and Jennifer Hanson.
