This 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 is powered by an M113 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission and demonstrates clean finishes, a stock configuration, and a sorted mechanical history. This SL500 was initially registered in Hooksett, New Hampshire in May of its model year and subsequently spent time in both Florida and New York, where it is currently located. Maintenance within the past several years has included replacement of the radiator and valve cover gasket. Finished in Silver Metallic over a tan leather interior, this R129 SL500 is now offered with a color-matched hardtop, service records, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear New York title in the seller’s name.
The R129-chassis SL-class 2-door first debuted in 1989 as a grand tourer and received two facelifts during its lifecycle, incorporating body-color door handles, curved-face taillights, and additional cosmetic updates. This unmodified SL500 from 1999 is painted silver and features a power-operated retractable tan cloth top as well as an accompanying color-matched factory hardtop. Design features include fog lamps, color-matched bumpers, vented front fenders, fog lamps, a retractable antenna, and a trunk-mounted third brake light. The seller has included photos in the gallery showing both tops in place as well as pictures of the car with its fabric top lowered.
This SL500 rolls on chrome-finished 5-spoke wheels. Braking is handled by power-assisted discs with anti-lock. Suspension underpinnings are comprised of independent damper struts up front and an independent multi-link rear.
The interior is fitted with power-operated tan leather bucket seats, color-matched to the door panels, lower dash, and carpeting. The cabin is accented with woodgrain trim on the door panels, center console, and steering wheel. Additional amenities include an emergency-activated roll bar, automatic climate control, power windows, power door locks, vanity mirrors, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, cruise control, and a factory Bose audio system. The seller states that the air bladders in the seats are inoperative.
Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7K-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for fuel economy, fuel level, and coolant temperature. A digital external thermometer is included in the cluster. The digital odometer reads 111K+ miles, which the seller states is a true reading.
The 5.0-liter M113 V8 consists of an aluminum block and cylinder heads and received an original factory rating of 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The drivetrain received a recent oil change and additional maintenance over the course of its lifetime, which is illustrated in the CARFAX report. The brake pads, valve cover gasket, radiator, and tires were replaced in 2015 by Mercedes-Benz of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 5-speed electronically-controlled 5G-Tronic automatic transmission.
The CARFAX report shows that this vehicle’s history is free of accidents or damage. It passed a New York emissions inspection in May of 2021. Sale includes a hardtop as well as service records.
