Vehicle Story

This 1966 Chevrolet C10 is a custom short-bed pickup that has been driven 300 miles since the installation of a crate 350ci V8 with performance upgrades consisting of an aluminum intake manifold, a Holley Sniper EFI unit, 2.5” headers, a Be Cool radiator, and more. Power is transferred to the rear by a rebuilt 3-speed Turbo 400 automatic transmission and a 12-bolt positraction rear end, and traction comes from a new set of Sumitomo tires wrapped around 18” chrome wheels. Finished in Green Metallic over a replacement gray leather interior, this first-generation C/K-Series pickup is now offered with a clear Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.

The C/K-Series line of Chevrolet pickups first debuted in 1960, riding on a drop-center ladder frame and available in stepside or fleetside body configurations. This C10 fleetside from the final year of the generation received a restoration with a respray in Green Metallic and pin-striped accents. Having originated in North Carolina, the body is reported to be rust-free, and the floor of the bed was refurbished with new oak planks and stainless-steel hardware. The bumpers, grille, and other bright trim accents are reported to be in good condition, including polished side-exit exhaust pipes forward of each rear tire.

Chrome-finished 18” six-spoke wheels are wrapped in newer Sumitomo 225/55-series tires. Steering is power-assisted, and the braking setup uses power-assisted discs up front and drums in the rear. The master cylinder and brake booster were replaced as part of the restoration. As for the suspension, the front end has been dropped 2.5” and all four shock absorbers have been replaced.

The cab is fitted with replacement gray leather seats from a later-model vehicle with matching lap belts and contrasting black carpeting. The dash and all exposed metal are painted to match the exterior, and amenities include a Lokar shifter, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, bowtie-branded carpeted floor mats, and an Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo connected to a subwoofer behind the seat.

Autometer instruments are housed within an aluminum bezel and communicate information via a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. A digital display for the Holley Sniper EFI system is mounted to the dash as well. The replacement five-digit mechanical odometer currently shows approximately 5,500 miles, although true chassis mileage is unknown.

The crate 350ci V8 is rated at 350 horsepower and has been driven 300 miles since installation. Upgrades include an aluminum intake manifold, a Holley Sniper EFI unit, a Holley coil, a Holley hyperspark ignition box, a performance air intake, a serpentine pulley setup, a Be Cool radiator with two electric fans, and 2.5” headers with Flowmaster mufflers. A 20-gallon aluminum fuel tank sits between the frame rails in the rear, and the pickup has been rewired with equipment from Ron Francis. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a rebuilt 3-speed Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a replaced torque converter and a shift kit. The rear end is a Chevrolet 12-bolt with 3.73 gears and Eaton positraction.

OK so I've been informed that the aftermarket makes a cable operated kit for the turbo 400. It appears that may be the case here but we also noticed the cable looks broken. Could we get a picture of the underside of the drivetrain? Thanks

I believe it has a turbo 350 trans as the turbo 400 has an electric kickdown mounted to the carburetor or throttle pedal/linkage not the cable as seen in a couple of engine pictures. Also, was the crate engine purchased as a 350 horsepower , established on a dyno or just a guesstimate? It's a beauty. Thanks
