This 1963 Studebaker Avanti is a preserved and recently-serviced two-door coupe that benefits from newer replacement parts for the body, engine bay, and interior. The 289ci Jet-Thrust V8 is mated to a rebuilt BorgWarner 3-speed automatic transmission and sends power to the ground via a newer set of chrome wheels and tires. Features include air conditioning, full instrumentation, and power-assisted disc brakes. Finished in Gold over a reupholstered two-tone red and ivory vinyl interior, this Avanti is now offered with service records and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The Avanti model launched into production in 1962 in Studebaker’s South Bend, Indiana assembly plant as a personal luxury car. A total production run of fewer than 6,000 units rolled off the assembly line over the subsequent years. This example from 1963 Avanti was repainted its original Gold under prior ownership, and the body is reported to be straight with good gloss throughout. Body characteristics include chrome front and rear bumpers, bright window moldings and door handles, and a large greenhouse.
Chrome-finished five-spoke 15” wheels are wrapped in tires with good tread remaining. Power-assisted front disc brakes came standard, as did the front and rear stabilizer bars.
The four-passenger interior is fitted with reupholstered two-tone ivory and red vinyl bucket seats, split by a center console. Avanti embroidery is featured on the backrests, and similar-hue materials are used for the door panels, complemented by an ivory dash and a wrapped steering wheel. The window roll-up equipment has been serviced per the seller, and amenities include air conditioning and a radio.
Instrumentation is presented in a panel with a predominant 160-mph speedometer and 8k-rpm tachometer, surrounded by an analog clock as well as gauges for coolant temperature, voltage, fuel level, oil pressure, and boost. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 6k miles, which the seller believes to be 106k. True mileage on the chassis is unknown.
A forward-hinged hood opens up to the 289ci Jet-Thrust V8 with a chrome-finished air cleaner. The powertrain has received recent maintenance in the form of a replacement battery, distributor, rear axle seals, and master cylinder. A new flex plate was installed in August 2020. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted, rebuilt BorgWarner Power-Shift 3-speed automatic transmission.
The sale includes service records.

You are right. Grass Valley is about half-way between Sacramento and Reno.

Here's yesterday's post with punctuation, so it's easier to read: First, a couple of corrections to listing copy (both my fault): 1. Radio doesn't work (but it wasn't original anyway, as it also had a cassette tape player and cassette tapes didn't exist in 1963) 2. This isn't a "preserved" Avanti, but a restored one. It's an older restoration, but it was a body-off-the-frame restoration because I saw photos of the body being painted. I was told when I bought this car in July 2020 that it was "perfect." (Stop me if you've heard this one.) Needless to say, I didn't really expect that to be true and it wasn't. I've had it in the shop 8 times since then fixing this and that. Here is a complete list of what I've had done: converted AC so that it works with modern, legal coolant (not Freon); tune up, new plugs and points, spark plug wires; new oil filter, fuel filter, air filter; repaired right front seat rail so that seat is secure; new battery; bled all four brakes; adjusted brake proportion valve; increased front brake pressure; rebuilt starter and alternator; new AC belt, alternator belt, power steering belt; new muffler and exhaust system; new flex plate in transmission; rebuilt transmission; new distributor; fixed short in electrical wire harness; valves adjusted; replaced window regulators on both doors so that windows now roll up and down; new master cylinder; new front wheel bearing; parking brake repaired

Now that I know that torque box is the proper name for "hog trough" I can report that my mechanic says there are no issues there or elsewhere on the undercarriage.
It’s very nice looking and love the location where it’s located we use to go there for the rodeo and fair. What are the main issues you have repaired or known ones needed? And yes I have a 61 Corvette in pristine condition today and understand tomorrow when I drive it there maybe an unknown problem occurs
The torque boxes are also referred to as hog troughs, basically the major attachment devices of the body to the frame, usually have a history of needing attention. Thanks!

Would you consider any trade offers?
The radio in the Avanti doesn't work.
Thanks for your question. I don't really know about the undercarriage, but three different shops have had the car up on the rack and no one has ever said anything about the undercarriage needing any attention. I don't know what torque boxes are. In terms of pending and/or upcoming maintenance issues, I don't know of any specific issues. But there will be some. The car is 58 years old and needed some work when I got it last year. Since then, I have been fixing or repairing things as necessary. And you're right: it is a nice-looking Avanti. The attention it's received when I was driving it has been a little mind boggling.
