This 1965 Ford Mustang fastback was the recipient of a highly-documented five-year restoration under current ownership and is powered by a replacement 289ci V8 backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. Along with the installation of a reupholstered interior, this pony car received performance upgrades including Wilwood brake components, rack and pinion steering, an MSD ignition system, an aluminum radiator, and more. Finished in Rangoon Red over a reupholstered two-tone red and white vinyl interior, this Mustang is now offered with restoration documentation and a clear Arkansas title in the seller’s name.
This first-generation Mustang bears a fastback (63A) body style and was refinished in Rangoon Red (J) with dual white stripes, with exterior features including fender-mounted 289 badging, fog lamps, sail panel louvers, and brightwork for the front and rear bumpers, grille, rocker panel moldings, and dual polished exhaust outlets at the rear. The body is described as being in good condition with quality fit and finish evident from an older frame on restoration that was carried out.
Chrome-finished five-spoke 15” wheels are wrapped in 225/60-sized BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires. The braking system was serviced with a new brake booster and a Wilwood tandem master cylinder, and a rack and pinion steering has been added.
The interior is upholstered with two-tone red and white vinyl bucket seats up front with a Sport Deck folding bench in the rear, having been color-matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. The driver seating position has been extended for maximum legroom, and additional interior work included a rebuild of the door locks and window cranks, and replacement of the rear window gasket. Amenities include a center console with bright accent trim, rubber Mustang-branded floor mats, a radio with Boss speakers in the rear cargo area, and full carpeting.
Instrumentation is provided by a factory sweeping 120-mph speedometer, a coolant temperature gauge, and a fuel gauge. Additional column-mounted gauges are installed for an 8k-rpm tachometer and an analog clock. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads just under 2k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
This Mustang reportedly came originally outfitted with an inline-6 but later received a replacement 289ci V8 powerplant. Upgrades to the newer engine include an MSD ignition system and recent maintenance such as replacement of the bell housing, a newer clutch assembly, a rebuilt carburetor, a new starter, and a replacement Champion aluminum radiator with an electric fan. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted replacement 4-speed manual transmission.
The sale includes a book of receipts for restoration documentation.
