This 1978 Datsun 280Z is presented as a largely unmodified and rust-free three-door sports hatchback powered by an L28E 2.8-liter inline-6 paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This 280Z has been family-owned long-term and received recent service to the air conditioning system and other mechanical aspects, documented in-service records which are included with the sale. Finished in Silver Metallic over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, this 280Z is now offered with a clear Georgia title in the seller’s name.
The original Datsun Z-car launched on the S30-series chassis for the 1970 model year and subsequently underwent changes to design, powertrain, and engineering. In 1975, engine size was increased to 2.8 liters and the exterior received revised bumpers in accordance with federal safety requirements. This 280Z from the final year of the generation is painted Silver Metallic with navy blue accent striping on the hood. The exterior is characterized by bright bumpers with guards, black-finished dual sideview mirrors, a color-matched trunk lip spoiler, and rear window louvers. Paint touch-up was carried out in 2012 on the passenger side and hood, and the seller notes that there is a small spot of surface rust on the exterior.
Steel 14” wheels with full polished Z-logo covers are wrapped in 195/70-sized Goodyear Eagle GTS raised-white-letter tires with good tread life remaining. Braking is handled by discs up front and drums in the rear.
The two-seat interior is configured with reupholstered black vinyl bucket seating, color-matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a center console with storage, air conditioning, an AM/FM/cassette radio, and a carpeted cargo area.
Instrumentation is provided by a 160-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer, along with accompanying gauges at the top of the center stack for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 38k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The Bosch fuel-injected L28E 2.8-liter inline-6 was has received regular maintenance per the seller, including recent service to the air conditioning system. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 5-speed manual transmission.

@CanStar – Could you show more pictures of the bottom of the car so we can see if there are any areas of rust? Also the spare tire well, under the battery and rocker panels. Is the mileage accurate? How many owners were there before you? What dealer was the car originally purchased from? ...
Added a number of pictures. No rust under rockers, in spare tire well, and you can see extent under battery. Took various other shots to give you a feel, including shots of bigger rust areas I could find. Overall the Datsun is in great shape and has spent most of its life in the garage! Mileage is correct and I am the second owner. I am not sure of the original dealership unfortunately. Thank you for your interest. Sorry for the delay in response. I was travelling.

It drives very smoothly at 75 mph, no wobble however I have not had the tires balanced for several years. The clutch works great and has not been replaced since I had the car. It spends a lot of its life in my garage as the low miles show. It’s runs amazing and is a lot of fun to drive. I have retained all service records since I owned it.
