Vehicle Story

This 1964 Pontiac GTO is powered by a 389ci V8 paired to an automatic transmission. Equipment includes power steering, manual windows, the original wood steering wheel, the original and working AM radio with reverb option, and a console-mounted shifter. Located in British Columbia, Canada, the car is now offered with a clear and current Canadian registration.

Pontiac offered the GTO in coupe, pillarless hardtop, and convertible body styles. This first-year GTO is a hardtop coupe dressed in Sunfire Red and features a split grille, chrome bumpers, quad headlights, a dual-scoop hood, and horizontal bar taillights.

The grille, front and rear fenders, and trunk lid feature GTO badges.

A tag attached to the car indicates it was built in the third week of June (6C) at Pontiac's Fremont, California (BF) factory with Sunfire Red paint (N) and Parchment interior (219). It is furnished with bucket front seats, a rear bench seat, and matching door panels. Equipment includes the original wood-rimmed 4-spoke steering wheel and functional original AM radio with optional reverb, according to the seller, as well as power steering, manual crank windows, and a console-mounted automatic shifter.

The GTO's signature engine-turned dashboard trim surrounds round analog gauges that show the car's speed on a 120-mph speedometer, odometer, oil pressure, fuel level, and more. Mileage is reported to be approximately 43,900, which the seller believes to be accurate and which appears to be supported by included appraisal reports.

The engine compartment features a light blue 389ci V8 with chrome valve covers and a chrome air cleaner housing. According to the current owner, it is connected to an automatic transmission and a 4-barrel carburetor. When new, the 389/4-barrel carburetor combination was factory rated for 325 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque.

This GTO puts its power to the road through a limited-slip differential and a set of wheels with knock-off-style center caps surrounded by whitewall tires.

The original factory invoice, a portion of the build sheet, an inspection report, and a 2001 appraisal will go with the car.
