This 1967 Pontiac GTO two-door hardtop is accompanied by Pontiac Historical Services documentation, having undergone a factory-correct comprehensive restoration and powered by a rebuilt, modified 400ci V8 paired with a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission. This GTO was assembled in Fremont, California and first sold by Pat Clark Pontiac in Las Vegas, Nevada to its original owner in June 1967 who retained it for its first 40 years. Equipment includes front disc brakes, air conditioning, and a Hurst shift lever. Finished in a one-year-only color of Linden Green with a black vinyl top over a Parchment interior, this GTO is now offered with a Pontiac Historical Services window sticker, an owner’s manual, service records, a build sheet, a Protect-O-Plate, a copy of the original bill of sale, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
Initially debuting as an option package on the Pontiac LeMans, the GTO name became a standalone mid-sized muscle car beginning in 1966. This example from the subsequent year was refinished in a one-year-only shade of Linden Green (H) with a Cordova black vinyl top. The body finishes are reported to be rust-free as a southwest region car since new, and brightwork includes bumpers, side moldings, driver side mirror, and a polished dual exhaust system at the rear. The seller notes that minor surface scratches are noted on the lower rear bumper along with slight damage to the driver door edge caused by improper installation of the door edge guard. The taillights are original and demonstrate some hairline cracking. Detailed photos of the exterior can be seen in the carousel.
Rallye-style 14” GTO wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter 235/60 tires up front and 245/60 in the rear. Braking is handled by factory-equipment front disc and rear drum brakes, and steering is power-assisted. The suspension was rebuilt at the time of restoration is upgraded with a rear anti-toll bar and adjustable rear air shocks.
The interior is fitted with Parchment bucket seats, with color-coordinated door panels, headliner, and black carpeting covered by GTO-logo floor mats. There are factory lap belts both front and rear, and additional amenities include wing windows, R134a air conditioning, a push-button AM/FM radio, Soft Ray tinted glass, a Hurst shift lever, and woodgrain trim. The trunk is in good condition and contains a period-correct Firestone Wide Oval spare tire, along with associated equipment.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and a Rallye gauge package with readouts for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 3k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown. The current owner has added fewer than 5,000 miles during nine years of ownership and fewer than 1,000 miles since mechanical overhaul.
The replacement 400ci V8 was sourced from a 1970 GTO and bears casting number 979914, residing in a fully dressed engine bay. The powerplant received a comprehensive rebuild, balance, and blueprinting to 461ci stroker specifications with stock heads ported to 65cc, completed in 2014 and supported by receipts and documentation. A new clutch and starter were installed at the same time, and a tune-up and oil service were performed. The motor has features including 9:0 to 1 compression, and has balanced rotating assemblies, a forged steel crank and camshaft, full rocker valve assembly with Lunati springs, an Edelbrock Performer intake, Lunati competition camshaft, Voodoo roller rocker camshaft, a ram air-style exhaust manifold, a Holley 770-cfm Avenger carburetor, and Ferrea stainless-steel valves. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a rebuilt Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission with an M22 gear set and a rebuilt rear differential with a 3:23 ratio.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
The sale includes the Protect-O-Plate and a copy of the original bill of sale.
