Vehicle Story

This 1951 Mercury 1CM Club Coupe is located in Stanley, Wisconsin and was the recipient of an extensive restoration that involved custom paint and bodywork in the mid-2000's. Power is produced by a flathead Ford V8 paired with a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission and equipment includes manual steering, mechanical brakes and a 12-volt electrical system. The car is offered with a clean title in the seller's name.

Custom basecoat/clearcoat finished in Candy Brandywine from House of Kolor was applied on top of shaved body panels while under restoration and appears to have retained its condition well. Exterior features include chromed front and rear bumpers, side mirrors, lighting and trim pieces along with a split-pane windshield, curved rear glass and dual exhaust tips.

Chrome wire wheels are equipped over 4-wheel mechanical drum brakes and fitted with a set of wide whitewall radial tires. The car rides on standard chassis components for the model year which consists of a leaf-sprung solid rear axle and coil-sprung independent front suspension.

The interior is outfitted in parchment-colored leather and vinyl over the door panels and front and rear bench seating with red carpeting as an accent. Factory dash components were utilized in the restoration process and stainless hardware is equipped throughout. Instrumentation is noted to be working properly including the 110-mph speedometer and 5-digit odometer which shows 41,347 miles.

Instrumentation includes a 110-mph speedometer, a center-dash clock, and gauges for oil, fuel, temperature, and battery voltage.  Although a five-digit mechanical odometer is in place, true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The black engine compartment is home to a 255ci flathead V8 which comes dressed with three Stromberg 97 carburetors under individual chrome air cleaners, finned valve covers and braided stainless lines. Shifting is accomplished manually by way of a column shifted 3-speed manual transmission and the car is reported to run and drive properly without any notable issues.

Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.

Hi AtelierLucia, the vehicle is equipped with a manual 3-Speed Column Shift and is displayed incorrectly under the transmission category. AUTOHUNTER UPDATE 9/29: The transmission category has been updated to properly show manual transmission.

@jwjohnson – Are there any rust issues? Any place that the paint has any bubbles? Has the motor and transmission been rebuilt in the past 20 years? Thanks JW ...

Hi, No rust issues, body and paint are beautiful. As for rebuilds, everything was gone through during the restoration and there is a file several inches thick with all documents pertaining to the build. Nice cruiser! Jon
