Vehicle Story

This 1936 Ford Model 68 is a four-door sedan that spent three decades in storage before being subject to a mechanical overhaul in 2017 that addressed refurbishment of the valves, rings, bearings, and oil pump for the 221ci flathead V8, having now been 3,000 miles since that overhaul. Power for this sedan is directed to the rear by way of a 3-speed sliding-mesh manual transmission and wide whitewall tires, and body upgrades include fog lamps, refinished brightwork, and replacement glass. Finished in black over a reupholstered tan cloth interior, this rust-free Model 68 is now offered with service records, the uninstalled original radio, and a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.

The Model 68 launched as a high-end trim level of the full-size Ford Model 48 in 1936, with design language characterized by a pentagonal grille with vertical bars. This sedan is configured in a four-door body style with rear-hinged rear doors, refinished in black and accented by brightwork throughout for the bumpers with guards, grille, headlight rings, moldings, sideview mirrors, and other trim. The body is reportedly rust-free, and the car was in storage for 30 years before being purchased by the seller in 2015. Features include replacement glass, fog lights, a spotlight, a spare tire carrier at the rear, and an aftermarket luggage rack.

Steel wheels with Ford-branded chrome center caps are wrapped in wide whitewall tires. The braking system consists of four-wheel drums and has been outfitted with a floater kit and replacement kingpins, while suspension architecture is provided by a transverse leaf setup.

The bench seats and door panels are upholstered with brown cloth, while the dash and window sills are dressed in a woodgrain design and flooring is a gray rubber liner topped by tan carpeted mats. The seller states that the bottom portions of the doors and the interior of the trunk were repainted under prior ownership. Amenities include a banjo-style steering wheel and a trunk-housed tool kit.

Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer along with gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and an analog clock which is integrated into the rearview mirror. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 66k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 221ci flathead V8 received mechanical work in 2017 involving the valves, valve guides, rings, crank, rod bearing, cam and main bearings, and oil pump. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 3-speed sliding-mesh manual transmission.

The sale includes service records and the uninstalled original radio.

@Onlyronz8 – Hi, Can you tell me do all the gauges work please ? Many thanks ...

The temperature gauge and window wipers do not work. Rest of the gauges work. Also, there is a new window wiper motor.
