This 1967 Mercury Cyclone GT two-door hardtop has driven 3,000 miles since undergoing a mechanical overhaul, powered by a Fairlane-sourced replacement 390ci V8 mated to a rebuilt C6 3-speed automatic transmission. This Cyclone received a respray in a hue very close to the original Cinnamon Frost Gold along with refurbished brightwork, Magnum 500-style wheels, and a reupholstered black vinyl interior. Offering conveniences such as power steering and power brakes, this second-generation Cyclone is now offered with accompanying spare parts, a binder of documentation, and a clear Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.
The Cyclone name was first launched in 1964 as a performance-oriented variant of the intermediate-sized Comet, later assuming a role as a standalone muscle car. For the second generation in 1966, the body lines of the Cyclone and its sibling Ford Fairlane received updated design treatment. This Cyclone from the subsequent year was configured in performance-focused GT trim, having been restored and repainted in a color similar but slightly lighter than the original Cinnamon Frost Gold in 2010. Attributes include a fiberglass front bumper and a dual-intake hood, stacked quad headlights, GT fender badging, a white side accent stripe, and a Cyclone-branded black full-width rear panel. Brightwork is in good condition for the grille, moldings, window trim, sideview mirrors, and additional accents.
Magnum 500-style 15” wheels are wrapped in Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 raised-white-letter tires. The suspension was serviced and the frame has been reinforced per the seller, and handling is assisted by both power steering and power brakes.
The interior is trimmed with reupholstered black vinyl fold-forward bucket seats, separated by a matching center console. The door panels, padded dash, carpeting, and embroidered floor mats are similar shades, and additional amenities include a retro-style newer radio, GT badging, and a lined trunk with a whitewall spare tire.
Instrumentation is set in a bright bezel behind a two-spoke factory wheel and includes a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, voltage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 3k miles, which per the seller reflects mileage driven since the mechanical overhaul. True mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The replacement, period-correct 390ci V8 was sourced from a Ford Fairlane GT and subsequently rebuilt, with upgrades include a Pertronix electronic distributor and engine bay dress-up equipment. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a console-shifted rebuilt C6 3-speed automatic transmission with fewer than 500 miles on a rebuild, and the rear end is a 9” positraction setup with 3.50 gearing.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
The sale includes uninstalled original parts such as the radio and coil, as well as a binder of documentation.
AUTOHUNTER ADMIN UPDATE 9/30/21 8:33 AM: Per the seller, the respray is a slightly lighter shade than what was applied at the factory.
@Robert8198 – Beautiful car! A great representation of a 60's era muscle car. ...
Thanks for the compliment Robert appreciated. Don't really see many of these as there we not that many made in 66 nor 67. I have only seen 2 and local shows and they were only base cyclones with the 289 2 barrel engines, not the GT.

It is an original. GT per vin number. Original hood and badging. 66-67 cyclone GT's are S code code which designates 390 4 barrel, which were only available on the GT models. Only engine configuration for those 2 model years for the GT.
