This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster has covered just under 67,000 miles since new and offers both a cloth soft top as well as an original color-matched removable hardtop with a storage stand. Reportedly purchased brand new by the seller’s uncle, the car remained in Thousand Oaks, California until March 2021 when it was moved to Montana. Power is provided by the original 4.5-liter V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission, and recent work has consisted of the replacement of the water pump, gaskets, and other mechanical aspects of the vehicle. Equipment includes power windows, burl woodgrain interior trim, an aftermarket radio, and air conditioning. Finished in Manila Beige over a Camel leather interior, this R107 is now offered with a tonneau cover, German license plates, first aid kit, service history, awards from various car shows, and a clear Montana title in the seller’s name.
This 450SL is finished in Manila Beige with a hand-painted black pinstripe and a chocolate brown soft top with plastic rear windows. The exterior brightwork is reported to be in good condition, featuring chrome bumpers with guards, side moldings, window surrounds, and sideview mirror caps. Exterior illumination is handled by quad headlamps with factory fog lamps up front and ribbed taillights in the rear.
Factory 14” Bundt wheels are chrome-finished and wrapped in new tires. Stabilizer bars are equipped both front and rear, and disc brakes are set up on all four corners.
The interior is fitted with camel MB-Tex upholstery for the front bucket seats with matching door panels and an optional cup holder. The original tan wool carpet is also in place as well as new Mercedes floor mats. Burl Woodgrain trim adorns the center console, and additional amenities include a custom dash pad, power windows, air conditioning with automatic climate control, and cruise control. An aftermarket AM/FM radio is wired to the original speakers and the trunk is lined with the original carpet.
Instrumentation is comprised of a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 67k miles, which the seller asserts is a true reading.
The 4.5-liter V8 was factory rated at 180 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque when new. Per the seller, the water pump was replaced in March 2021, and the transmission gaskets and all belts and hoses were replaced, flushed, and refilled in April 2021. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a 3-speed automatic transmission.
The sale includes the hardtop with a stand as well as repair receipts. A video is available for viewing below.

@TheNov – Nice SL - 450 ! Looking for a 380 or 560 . Love Montana , My mom was from Libby , Mt. ! Why are you selling such a nice Low Mi. car ? ...
Hi! Yes, it is a very nice car - much nicer than my daily driver! I inherited this 450SL from my uncle who passed away. He bought it new in Thousand Oaks, California where it has been till March 2021 when I had it transported to Livingston. I love the car but am limited on when and where I can drive it, so I'm hoping it will go to someone who will enjoy it.

@Steve6979 – What is meant by Germain license plates? ...
Hi Steve, It was meant to say German license plate - not Germain. Sorry. I've asked the auction folks to make the change. About the license plate, this was my uncle's car and he always displayed the German plate along with the California plates. I personally do not know how the plates were obtained but I also have other German items for this car. My uncle passed away three years ago and I received the car this year. He had entered it in several car shows in Southern California and I have his trophies and other awards. Good luck! Michael
