Vehicle Story

This 1984 Ford Mustang GLX convertible comes from 20 years of garage-kept ownership and is powered by a 5.0-liter, 302ci V8 paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This Fox Body resided long-term in southern California before being relocated to Indiana in 2001, where it was treated to a full repaint four years later. Mechanical roadworthiness is up to date, with service in the past year including replacement of the tires, a new battery, and an oil change. Finished in Burgundy Metallic with matte black accents over a charcoal cloth interior, this third-generation Mustang is now offered with a clean CARFAX report, service records, and a clear Indiana title in the seller’s name.

The third-generation Mustang debuted in 1979 on the Fox platform and received a refresh in 1983 with a restyled front fascia, a more rounded nose, and wider taillights. A convertible was added to the lineup that same year after a nine-year absence. This drop-top from 1984 was refinished in Burgundy Metallic over a rust-free body in 2005, featuring a matte black hood accent along with black side moldings, handles, window trim, and a cloth top. The body is accentuated by fog lamps, black headlight bezels, 5.0 badging, and polished exhaust finishers.

Aluminum 16” wheels are wrapped in newer tires, and power braking is provided by discs up front and drums in the rear.

The interior trimmed in charcoal hues, with cloth bucket seats and matching door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include an AM/FM radio, a center console, power windows, and power door locks. The seller notes that the wiper switch needs to be replaced.

Instrumentation is provided by an 85-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 3k miles, which the seller believes to be 103k actual miles. True mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 302ci V8 has a four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 175 horsepower. The drivetrain received a replacement battery and an oil change in 2021. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 5-speed manual transmission.

The CARFAX report shows a history free of accidents or damage, with a mileage inconsistency noted in 2001 due to the odometer roll-over. The sale includes service records.

@ralf-who – It sure looks like the right rear window doesn't operate. Is that correct? ...

CORRECTION: Sorry for the confusion. I checked again and found the window lock switch had been moved. Both rear windows do open.
