This 1964 Sunbeam Alpine III GT is a largely original British-built roadster and offers both a cloth soft top as well as an original color-matched removable hardtop. Acquired by the seller in 2019, the 1592cc 4 cylinder 4-speed manual transmission is original to the car and features a rebuilt Webber carburetor and heater core. Upgrades include new carpet, vinyl seats, vinyl door panels, retro-lap belts, and a resurfaced/sealed dashboard and steering wheel. Finished in Kinetic Blue over a black vinyl interior, this convertible is now offered with a tonneau cover, and a clear North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
This car was designed courtesy of the Rootes Group (UK) who produced and designed the Alpine for the North American market from 1953 to 1955, and then 1959 to 1968. This third-generation example from 1965 is one of only 5,863 built and is described as being free of rust and undercoated. Finished in Kinetic Blue, the exterior received a repaint in 2017 from the previous owner and brightwork includes the front and rear bumpers with overrides, the grille, window surrounds, a door-mounted driver's mirror, and a trunk-mounted luggage rack. The seller notes that this vehicle is missing a chrome trim plate/gasket around the gas cap area, the center console doesn't have a locking mechanism and the hardtop is in good condition but the latches will need to be repainted.
Polished Sunbeam Alpine Tiger Lotus Minilite wheels with spinner caps are wrapped in tires with good life remaining.
Featuring black front bucket seats with blue accents, the interior was overhauled over the last two years and is complemented by matching door panels, center armrest , and floor mats. Equipment includes a burled walnut dash, mahogany steering wheel, retro lap belts, Noico 80 mil sound heat mats, a locking center console, and refinished trunk space with black carpet.
Instrumentation consists of individual gauges, including a 7k rpm tachometer and 140mph speedometer in as well as gauges for voltage, oil pressure, fuel level, and water temperature. The odometer shows 30,581 miles, but true mileage is unknown.
The 1592cc 4 cylinder power is fed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission. Recent maintenance includes an oil change last month and all new fluids last year.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

@BNicks – Chase, All the gauges work well. The electronics are intact, noting the turn signal works downward (left) only; I had the heater core rebuilt earlier this summer - and no issues driving during the summer; fuel system was flushed when I purchased the car, we rebuilt the carburetor - no issues; no transmission grinding nor humming at speed; clutch remains with good life; all chrome is original except the vertical bumper caps - with some pitting on the door handles, trunk lid trim; it has not been upgraded to electronic ignition (still has points); no cracked windows; front windshield has some scratches from the previous owner (windshield wiper scratches); hardtop back glass was new when I purchased the car; window rollers are in good and functional condition. ...
Thanks for your response!
@Chase519 – Hello, Nice little Alpine....Do all the gauges and electrics work correctly? Did it run hot at all during the summer? Any issues with the engines fuel system or cooling system since you have owned the car? Does the transmission grind when going into 2nd 3rd and 4th or whine at all? Does the rear end whine or make noise? Clutch still have lots of life? Has any of the chrome trim been restored on the car or is it all original? Is the ignition still on points or does the car have a Pertronix Igniter or some other Electronic Ignition addon? Window regulators roll up and down smooth? Any chipped glass? Possible to provide the date code on the tires ? Thanks! ...

@DonH – I just noticed it has a reserve. Can you tell me if bidding is close? Thanks Don ...
The glovebox cubby was replaced by the previous owner; I don’t know that all Alpines had glovebox covers - this one does not.

@BNicks – Don, It is certainly road worthy. I haven’t taken it on drives longer than 100 miles for local car shows or rally’s during my period of ownership. I do drive it locally nearly each week (weather dependent). Hope that helps. ...

@DonH – Hi.. how road worthy is it? Would it make a 500 mile trip OK? Thanks, Don ...
