Vehicle Story

This 1955 Ford Fairlane Victoria two-door is a largely-original hardtop that received restoration under prior ownership, powered by what is believed to be the original V8 backed by a Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission. This Victoria is an accompanied by an original sales sheet from Propes Motor Sales in Spencer, Indiana illustrating original configured options including an electric clock, turn indicators, fender shields, and undercoating. The car has resided in Indiana since new and has been garage-kept under the seller’s two-year ownership. Finished in two-tone blue and white over a matching vinyl interior, this Victoria is now offered with spare parts, the sales invoice, and a clear Indiana title in the seller’s name.

Full-size Ford models received a new body beginning in 1955 with more squared off design than prior models, with the Victoria model using a hardtop configuration. This example was subject to an older restoration in the early 2000s and was repainted in two-tone blue and white. Brightwork shows in good condition for the bumpers with guards, grille, moldings, and dual polished exhaust outlets at the rear. There are glass cracks in the windshield at the driver side corner and on the passenger side front window as shown in the photo carousel.

Steel 15” wheels have full polished covers and are wrapped in raised-white-letter Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires. The braking system uses 11” drums and was serviced including a new right rear wheel cylinder, brake line, and bleed in April 2021.

The interior was retrimmed at the time of restoration an estimated 15 or more years ago, offering dual two-tone blue and white vinyl bench seating with matching door panels and a metal dash. The black carpeting is protected by aftermarket floor mats, and amenities include a heater, defroster, and chrome dash trim. The seller states that the push-button radio is not working and the headliner is coming loose in the back. The trunk contains a spare tire.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a dash-mounted analog clock which is not working, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 1k miles, which the seller believes to be 101k miles. True mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The V8 powerplant is believed original to the car according to the seller. The electrical system is the original 6-volt setup, and power is directed to the rear wheels via a column-shifted 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. The blower motor in the car is not currently working.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes the original sales invoice and spare parts including an alternator, new 12-volt blower motor, and components needed to convert the system to a 12-volt electrical system except a battery and bulbs. The seller has provided a video.

I haven’t noticed any leaks but I honestly haven’t crawled under the car. No noticeable rust that I can find in the usual places. The gentleman that restored it seems to have done a good job. I would be happy to take specific pictures of anything you would like to see. Thanks.
