This 1955 Buick Roadmaster Model 72 4-door sedan has been with the seller for 33 years and close to 20,000 miles and was the recipient of both a cosmetic refurbishment in 1994 and a recent mechanical restoration commissioned by the seller. Power comes from a 322ci "Nailhead" V8 while shifting is managed by a Dynaflow 2-speed automatic transmission and standard equipment for the model year includes power steering, power brakes, windshield washers, reverse lighting and a clock. The car is located in Scottsdale, Arizona with 61,700 miles on the odometer and offered with a clean title in the seller's name.
Finished in a two-tone white over royal blue, the car resprayed in this non-original but factory-offered color scheme while under cosmetic restoration in 1994 and noted to have a few blemishes in normal areas of the paintwork and trim as shown in the gallery photos. The car was originally designed by Harley Earl and features front quarter panel porting, a honeycomb grille, chrome bumpers, stainless trimmings and gold badging. The car is reported to show minimal rust due to spending most of its life in the dry Arizona climate and the seller notes that the older cosmetic restoration remains in a state that presents well.
Power steering and power brakes are equipped as standard for the model year to handle a set of what are described as relatively new whitewall tires over factory-style winged turbine wheels in chrome finish with Buick branded centers. Suspension is also standard for the model year and the wheel covers are showing signs of wear and surface in areas rust as shown in photos.
The interior is outfitted in off-white cloth upholstery over bench seating and black carpeting while the dash and door panels are fitted with two-tone body-matching royal blue and white. Equipment includes a recently replaced heater and seat upholstery, AM/FM radio which is working but in need of service, hydraulic-electric windows and an analog clock. The seller notes that the right quarter window is missing a knob for opening and closing it.
Instrumentation is framed by the stock steering wheel and consists of a recently refreshed 85-mph speedometer. The 5-digit odometer is reported to currently be showing 61,701 miles.
Power is produced by a 322ci "Nailhead" V8 paired with a Dynaflow 2-speed automatic transmission which was updated with an enhanced torque converter and higher compression ratio in 1955 providing increased performance to a factory rated 236hp. The engine was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago while the transmission was refreshed approximately 2,000 miles ago and both are reported to run well without any leaks or other notable issues with the exception of a slightly rich idle. At the time of the engine rebuilt the seller also replaced the gas tank and had the radiator re-cored.
