This 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS two-door hardtop has covered just 5,000 miles since the installation of a new performance-tuned drivetrain starting with a crate-sourced GM ZZ3 350ci V8 paired with a replacement Muncie wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes an Edelbrock intake, Hooker headers, a Holley carburetor, American Racing wheels, and a positraction rear end. Finished in Deep Blue Metallic over a reupholstered black vinyl bench interior, this first-generation Chevelle is now offered with a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.
First debuting in 1964 on the General Motors A-body platform, the Chevelle model filled a gap in the midsize segment between the smaller Chevy II and larger Impala. An available Super Sport package added special brightwork, emblems, and wheel covers. This Chevelle SS two-door hardtop from the subsequent year was the recipient of a repaint in Deep Blue Metallic and is presented as a restored, straight example featuring quad headlights, good panel fitment, quality brightwork, and Malibu SS badging. The rear end displays dual polished outlets from the Flowmaster mufflers connected to a 2.5” Mandrel-bent exhaust with electronically-controlled cutouts.
American Racing five-spoke 15” aluminum wheels with polished lips are mounted to new BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter 225/60 tires. The suspension was overhauled with air lift capability, structured around assist bags in the rear springs and a refurbished front end. The braking system has new components as well, including the master cylinder, lines, hoses, wheel cylinders, spring kits, and shoes.
The interior is reupholstered with black vinyl bench seating, color-matched to the door panels, dash, lap belts, carpeting, and floor mats. The dash is trimmed with an aluminum bezel and Malibu SS badging, while other amenities include a push-button radio and a Hurst shifter. The trunk is lined with a mat and contains a full-size matching BFGoodrich spare tire along with the factory jack assembly.
Instrumentation includes a restored cluster with a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 5k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The crate-sourced 350ci V8 has driven 5,000 miles since installation and is equipped with a Holley 750-cfm carburetor, an Edelbrock polished-aluminum intake, a high-torque mini starter, Hooker powder-coated headers, and MSD ignition components. The motor received newer wiring harnesses, a new water pump, alternator, and power steering pump, and battery as part of recent maintenance and is adorned with dress-up items including a chrome-finished air cleaner and chrome-finished valve covers. Originally configured as an automatic car, power is now sent to the rear wheels via a built Muncie wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission with a new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and a 3.73 rear axle with positraction.
