Vehicle Story

This 1953 Ford Crestline Sunliner 2-door convertible retains many of its original features and is reported to be a 3-owner example. Power is produced by a 239ci flathead V8 paired with a manual transmission which has been serviced and maintained as needed by a professional mechanic through the course of the seller's ownership. All accessories are said to be in working order and features include a power convertible top, AM/FM radio, heater/defroster, refreshed brightwork, and more. Located in Toronto, Canada, this middle-year Crestline is offered with a clear Ontario registration certificate.

Finished in Glacier Blue (C/45), the "shoebox" body styling was refinished in its factory color while under prior ownership with the addition of a black power convertible top which is reported to be in great and functional condition complete with its boot. Chrome and stainless trimmings are described to be in impeccable shape throughout the car and features include a wraparound windshield, rear plastic window, what is believed to be the original grille, and extensive brightwork.

A profile view puts clean whitewall tires on display fitted over a set of chrome wheels with red badging on the hubcaps with the rears partially hidden by fender skirts. Braking and steering systems are both mechanically operated and suspension consists of a leaf-sprung solid axle rear and a coil-sprung independent front.

The largely original interior is trimmed in blue and white vinyl over the bench seats and door panels, with contrasting deeper blue carpeting and dash panel. Features consist of a power convertible top, heater/defroster, manually crank windows, an AM/FM radio, and an analog clock located on the passenger side of the dash.

Instrumentation can be found behind the 2-spoke steering wheel and column shift lever and consists of a half-moon-shaped 110-mph speedometer. The 5-digit odometer is reported to show 75,236 miles, though true chassis mileage is unknown.

The engine bay is home to a 239ci flathead V8 complete with Ford’s “Special Oil Bath” air cleaner and a factory rating of 110hp through a 2-barrel carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. The seller reports that the car is in very good mechanical condition with no notable issues, and is a recipient of regular and timely servicing.

A cold start video is provided below.

@larzed – Your car is a '54. You can tell by the grill and the long chrome side stripe ...

Hi @larzed Thank you for your comment. The car has original tags in both the factory positions and both denote 1953 model. Maybe that was a change up year. I’ve also uploaded the Ford documents confirming the vin. Decode as a 1953. Thanks

@classicuniverse – Hi @Alfanut Thank you for your comment. However I’m not sure how your basing that info. The serial# clearly states 53 the ownership states 1953 and I always run Vin decode on our cars with the manufacturer and it definitely comes back a 53. ...

I owned exactly the same car, mine had a 239 Y block engine. Everything is exactly the same, the bumpers, the interior the roof (mine vinyl this looks like canvas), the dashboard the speedometer with the acrylic see through plate on the back, the badges the chrome trim etc. I did not have the continetal kit or back up lights. Mine was golden rod yellow. It was a model year 54 built in Buffalo NY. I have seen 53's (Sunliners) this is not a 53. It may have been built in 53 at end of year for new model year???? but model is 1954 I am certain.

@Wileyote – How long has the current owner had the car? What improvements have you made during ownership? Thanks ...

Hi @Wileyote We purchased this car together with other units from a gentleman’s collection about a year ago. This particular unit was in fantastic condition and is now being sold the same way we acquired it. It was sent to our mechanic that looks after all of our cars and he was astonished at the condition of the vehicle. They go over the car from front to back with an open cheque book and came back with only minor adjustments. Whoever wins this vehicle will be quite pleased with it I’m sure. Thank you for your interest. Good Luck
