Vehicle Story

This 1962 Triumph TR4 is a very original convertible that has been owned by the seller for 5 years and has driven around 200 miles during ownership. The rust-free body which includes a contrasting black retractable convertible top with a plastic rear window underwent a full body-off restoration, and was treated to a repaint 2 years ago with the addition of a new grille. Work performed during the restoration consisted of the installation of a new floor pan, inner and outer rocker panels, and Suffolk leather seats. Finished in Powder Blue over a gray leather interior, this TR4 is now offered with boxes of extra parts, including extra set of 4 wire wheels and tires, workshop manual, dashboard support, restoration pictures, and a clear South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The TR4 had a five-year run and was produced by the Triumph Motor Company from 1961 to 1965. This second-year example from 1962 was repainted in its original Powder Blue shade two years ago, accompanied by a new grille, bright trim for the bumpers with guards, door handles, and a black retractable convertible top with a plastic rear window. “Triumph” badging is affixed to the front hood and rear of the vehicle and the exhaust has been upgraded with an Abarth exhaust system.

Dayton 15” multi-spoke wire wheels with spinner caps are wrapped in Steel Belted Metric tires. The seller reports that new brakes were installed recently.

The entire interior was removed at the time of the refurbishment and subsequently provides gray Suffolk leather bucket seats outfitted with matching material on the dash, map pockets, and door panels. According to the seller, the interior consists of new carpet, and equipment includes a 3-spoke steering wheel; a floor-mounted manual shifter with a wood knob; and a locking glove compartment.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. Additional gauges are housed within the center stack displaying oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and voltage. True mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 2,138cc inline-four received a Weber down-draught carburetor and recent service to the clutch hydraulic system, alternator, cooling system hoses, master cylinder, and fuel line. The battery is also newer, and the horn, electric fan switch, emergency hood release, speedo cable, tach cable, and wiper motor have been replaced. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission. According to the seller, all fluids and oil were changed in Summer 2020.

Additional photos showing the condition of the undercarriage and the restoration can be found in the gallery.
