1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is a reportedly numbers-matching 396ci big-block car with its original engine and three-speed automatic transmission. According to the selling dealer who has had the car for the past eight months, it comes finished in newer factory-correct yellow paint, which is topped with a replacement factory-correct black vinyl roof. The black vinyl interior is furnished with front buckets and a rear bench seat, and equipped with manual windows, a cassette player, and a console-mounted automatic shifter. Available now, this A-body fastback comes from the selling dealer with a clear title.

When this Chevelle SS rolled out of GM's Framingham, Massachusetts plant in the fourth week of May, it had Butternut Yellow paint and a black vinyl top. It currently wears a newer factory-correct version of the same color combo as well as black stripes that start at the hood, run down the front fenders, extend across the doors, and finish at the end of the rear fenders. Additional features include chrome bumpers and "SS 396," "Chevelle," and "396" badging. 

Fifteen-inch Rallye wheels are set inside of 225/70/R15 General Altimax RT tires that are reportedly like new and show no signs of rot or wear.

The interior is furnished with black vinyl bucket front and bench rear seating as well as color-coordinated carpeting and door panels. Equipment includes manual crank windows, a three-spoke steering wheel, a center console with a horseshoe-style automatic shifter, and a cassette player. The carpeted trunk contains a spare wheel wrapped with a BFGoodrich tire.

The dashboard houses a set of gauges that includes a 120-mph speedometer as well as readouts for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery charge. According to the selling dealer, the radio does not work and there are 15,265 miles on the odometer, but they assume it has rolled over and that the true figure is 115K miles.

The VIN indicates this car was manufactured with a 396ci V8. According to the selling dealer, the engine under the hood is original to the car. Finished in orange, it comes equipped with headers, chrome valve covers, and an air cleaner housing with "396" and "TURBO-JET 325 HP" labels. The reportedly original three-speed automatic transmission sends the engine's output to the rear wheels. An oil change and a tune-up were performed recently and the car received new fuel filters and spark plugs and wires.
