This 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra is an unmodified, SVT-tuned pony car that has been one-family-owned and driven 72,563 miles since new. Powered comes from a performance-tuned 4.6-liter V8 paired with a T-5 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller has owned the vehicle for 10 years and is including paperwork from SVT acknowledging this Cobra as part of a limited-production run in special Mystic Clearcoat Metallic paint. Finished off with a black leather interior, this fourth-generation Mustang is now offered with a clean CARFAX report, SVT documentation, and a clear Virginia title.
Building on the success of the original pony car, the fourth-generation Mustang launched for the 1994 model year based on the design codenamed SN-95. Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) developed a high-performance Cobra variant with added equipment. This one-family-owned Mustang Cobra from 1996 is painted Mystichrome and offered as one of just 2,000 units produced of its kind according to accompanying documentation from SVT. This low-mileage example bears serial #1581 and displays unmodified exterior panels and equipment. The body is accented by fog lamps, a vented hood, Cobra fender badging, a spoiler, and a dual exhaust system. The seller notes that the front end was repainted about 10 years ago and there is a small ding on the exterior finish as shown in the photo carousel.
Polished aluminum 17” five-spoke wheels are mounted to older tires. Braking comes from four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes with Cobra-embossed calipers, and handling is aided by power steering.
The interior is fitted with black leather bucket seats, with matching materials on the door panels, center console, dashboard, and carpeting. Amenities include air conditioning, a stereo system, power windows, power door locks, and cruise control.
Instrumentation is given by a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 72,563 miles, which is a true reading supported by the CARFAX report.
The 4.6-liter V8 features cast-iron heads and lower intake, a Cobra-specific upper intake, and dual overhead camshafts. This powertrain was rated at 305 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque when new. The clutch has been replaced according to the seller, and power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted T-5 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Additional photos of the undercarriage can be found in the gallery.
The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record. The vehicle passed a Virginia safety inspection in June 2019. There is an open manufacturer recall dated December 2000 regarding the park brake control assembly, with a remedy shown as available. The sale includes SVT documentation about this model.

I forgot to add that the car was also freshly serviced with new oil and filter. My father does that every year, even though it’s hardly driven.
I feel very comfortable saying that this car could be driven anywhere in the country. The car just needs a good detailing. It gets dirty just sitting in the garage covered up.
Yes, my father went and had the car inspected since it was up for sale. My father doesn’t believe in selling a vehicle if there is something wrong with it.
Per carfax the car passed inspection in 2022 why wasn't the sticker updated?
