This 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is presented as one of only five in its equipment configuration for the year, having received a nut-and-bolt restoration that was completed in 2012 and retaining its numbers-matching 428ci Super Cobra Jet V8 paired with a close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. This Mach 1 from the model’s initial year features exclusive accent striping, front and rear spoilers, fog lamps, window louvers, and a Traction-Lok rear end. Finished in Candy Apple Red over a dark red vinyl interior, this Mach 1 is now offered with build sheets, a Marti report, additional documentation, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
Offered as a high-performance variant of the Ford Mustang, the Mach 1 was first introduced in August 1968 for the 1969 model year as a SportsRoof two-door fastback. This Mach 1 from that initial year was resprayed in its original hue of Candy Apple Red with a matte black accent on the hood as part of a restoration that was completed in 2012. Factory-correct white and orange Mach 1 striping was added, and the body is dressed with hood pins and shaker hood scoop, a lower front chin spoiler, fog lamps, color-keyed mirrors, rear quarter panel air inlets, a rear spoiler, window louvers, and quad exhaust outlets at the rear. According to documentation accompanying the sale, this is one of five Super Cobra Jet Mach 1 vehicles ordered with this equipment for the model year.
Factory 14” polished GT-style wheels are mounted to Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 raised-white-letter tires. Stopping power comes from power-assisted front disc brakes, and steering is power-assisted. All first-generation Mach 1 models came with a competition suspension.
The 2+2 deluxe interior features high-back dark red vinyl bucket seats, color-matched to the door panels, dash, and center console while contrasted by black embroidered floor mats. The cabin is accented in simulated woodgrain applique for the padded dash, center console, and shift knob, and all interior finishes are described as being in good condition. Additional amenities include a push-button AM radio and a fully carpeted trunk.
Instrumentation is set within a woodgrain applique panel and includes a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a dash-mounted analog clock, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 42k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The numbers-matching 428ci Super Cobra Jet V8 was dyno-tested at 387 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque per the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a numbers-matching 4-speed close-ratio manual transmission and a 4.30 Traction-Lok rear end.
Photos showing the rust-free underside are available in the carousel.
The sale includes build sheets, a Marti report, and additional documentation.
