This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS two-door hardtop is a true original 396 muscle car, supported by a factory build sheet and service documentation. Under the cowl-induction hood resides a numbers-matching Turbo-Jet 396ci V8 paired with a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. This Chevelle was originally assembled in Kansas City, Missouri, and delivered to Harold Chevrolet of Bloomington, Minnesota. Later in life, a detail-oriented restoration was carried out applying fresh exterior finishes, replacement upholstery, and subtle conveniences such as a modern audio system. Finished in red with black accent striping over a black vinyl interior, this second-generation Chevelle is now offered with a build sheet, service records, and a clear title.
The midsize Chevelle was engineered on the General Motors A-body platform and began production in 1963 for the inaugural 1964 model year, with body styles that encompassed coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. A new generation rolled out four years later in 1968 with a more rounded design language and modified trim options. This Chevelle two-door hardtop from 1970 is a top-of-the-line SS 396 with a solid rust-free body that was refinished in red with black accent stripes on the cowl-induction hood and trunk lid. Brightwork surrounding the body is in good condition for the bumpers, grille accents, headlight bezels, wheel arch moldings, driver side mirror, window surrounds, handles, and badging. The rear features an SS logo and dual exhaust outlets.
Magnum 500-style 14” wheels with SS-branded center caps are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires. A performance suspension came factory-equipped (Package F41), along with power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drums.
The interior presents reupholstered split-bench black vinyl seating, color-matched to the lap belts, door panels, headliner, dash, and carpeting. Cabin upgrades include a Hurst shifter, a Kenwood Bluetooth-enabled AM/FM/CD radio, and factory-tinted glass according to the build sheet. The trunk is lined in a vinyl mat and contains a spare tire.
Instrumentation centers around a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel level gauge, along with aftermarket gauges mounted beneath the dash for oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 11k miles, although true mileage is unknown.
The numbers-matching Turbo-Jet 396ci V8 was rated at 350 horsepower and is fed by a four-barrel carburetor and upgraded with Moroso chrome-finished valve covers. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted Muncie 4-speed manual transmission.
The sale includes a build sheet and service records. Walk-around and driving videos are available below for viewing.
