This 1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula was purchased new at Arata Pontiac of Burlingame, California and is now located in Grand Rapids, Michigan and available with authentic documentation, many factory options and just over 61,000 reportedly original miles on the odometer. Power comes from a 400ci V8 bolted to a 4-speed manual transmission which are confirmed to be in great running and driving condition. Factory equipped options include a heater/defroster, power brakes, power steering, AM/FM radio, Safe-T-Track rear end and additional packages including the Custom interior trim level, Body Protection and Handling groups. This highly original and well-kept 1973 Firebird is offered with ample documentation and service history along with clean title in the seller's name.
Originally finished in Ascot Silver (64), the car wears an older respray of its factory color which was completed at an unknown date but appears to have retained its condition well without any notable flaws other than some minor checking on the grille surround. The Body Protection Group is equipped and includes vinyl side moldings, door edge guards and rear bumper guards while additional features include chrome and stainless brightwork, dual exhaust tips, twin hood scoops and clean glass panels with a curved rear window.
Variable ratio power steering is equipped along with Pontiac's Handling package for the model year which consists of heavy-duty stabilizer bars and a set of 15x7-inch honeycomb wheels wrapped in steel-belted radial rubber. Power brakes were equipped from the factory as well with discs on the front and drums on the rear.
The interior is outfitted in black, wood grain and stainless throughout with vinyl upholstery over bucket seating and door panels to match. The seller believes the interior is original with the exception of a replacement headliner and notes that everything is clean and well-preserved. Features include a heater/defroster, AM/FM radio with a rear seat-mounted speaker, Formula steering wheel and Custom level trim which consists of fitted floor mats, decorative door handles, special front bucket and rear bench seats and upgraded trim pieces.
Instrumentation can be found behind the 3-spoke Formula steering wheel and includes factory-equipped rally gauges consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, 8k-rpm tachometer and an analog clock. Additional gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure and battery voltage come mounted adjacent in the wood grain cluster along with a 5-digit odometer which is reported to show original mileage of 61,345.
Power is produced by what is believed to be the original 400ci 230hp V8 which has been checked to confirm the numbers match and comes paired with a 4-speed floor-shifted close-ratio manual transmission. The engine comes dressed in the correct factory air cleaner, 4-barrel carburetor and blue finish inside the black engine compartment along with a heavy-duty radiator. The seller notes the drivetrain to run and drive excellently and does not report any leaks, smoking or other issues.
The underside is said to be unrestored and is home to a dual exhaust system and the optional Safe-T-Track rear differential. Additional photos of the undercarriage have been made available for viewing in the image gallery.
Documentation including the original window sticker, California pink slip, books and key knockouts as well as complete PHS documentation, recent service history and more are offered in the sale.
