This 1970 Plymouth AAR 'Cuda is one of the 2,724 AAR models produced during the model year and was featured in the show "Graveyard Carz." Under previous ownership, it was taken to the Oregon-based shop featured in the program to be built up into a rolling chassis; a separate facility balanced and blueprinted the original, numbers-matching 340ci "Six-Pack" V8. The current owner combined the rolling chassis, rebuilt engine, and rebuilt numbers-matching transmission, and finished restoring the car in 2016. It comes finished in yellow with a black hood, roof, and graphics over a black vinyl interior. Equipment includes aftermarket electronic ignition, a replacement clutch, and BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires with less than 3,000 miles on them. Available now, this AAR 'Cuda comes with its build sheet; receipts from its previous and current owners; replated, date-coded original carburetors; the original distributor and date-coded alternator; a restored set of lower control arms; and a clear title in the seller's name.
The third-generation Plymouth Barracuda changed from the previous A-body platform to E-body underpinnings and entered the market as a 1970 model. In order to run the 'Cuda in Trans-Am racing series as part of Dan Gurney's All-American Racers (AAR) team, Plymouth was required by the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) to produce homologation production Barracudas, which led to the AAR 'Cuda. This particular AAR was repainted in factory-correct Lemon Twist yellow and features black upper and lower grilles, a black hood with a center scoop and silver hood pins, black front fender tops, black strobe stripe side graphics leading to AAR logos, a black roof, the original black rear window louvers, a black rear spoiler, and a black rear fascia plate.
Equipment includes elastomeric bumpers, dual round headlights, a pair of round fog lights, horizontal tri-bar taillights, and a set of 15-inch wheels set inside of BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires reported to have fewer than 3,000 miles on them.
The interior is furnished with black carpeting, black floormats with "'Cuda" embroidered in yellow, black front buckets separated by a center console, and a black rear bench seat. Woodgrain trim is found on the center console and dashboard. Equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, a console-mounted manual, manual windows, and a radio. The seller notes there is a small crack in the vinyl of the original dashboard and a scratch in the passenger-side window.
Woodgrain trim is located on the center console and dashboard, which houses instrumentation that includes a 150-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and a combination gauge that shows readouts for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and more.
As indicated by the J in its VIN, this AAR 'Cuda came from the factory with a 340ci V8 with the "Six-Pack" of three two-barrel carburetors. It currently has its original engine, which was rebuilt and features an HEI distributor. The numbers-matching original manual transmission was also rebuilt and comes equipped with a newer clutch. According to the seller, the brakes were checked and an oil and filter change was performed in June of 2021.
Pictures of the car's underbody are available in the photo carousel to the right.
Sale includes the car's build sheet and receipts from its previous and current owners. As the seller states, it also comes with its replated, date-coded original carburetors; the original distributor and date-coded alternator; and a restored set of lower control arms, all of which are not currently installed on the car.
