Vehicle Story

This 1974 MG MGB is a two-owner British roadster that has been single-family-owned for the last three decades and with the seller for the last 10 years. Power comes from a B-series 1.8-liter inline-four engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Upgrades include front disc brakes, a reupholstered interior, a Weber carburetor conversion, a replacement soft top, and a clutch replaced under previous ownership. Finished in green over a tan interior, this MGB is now offered with a clear Minnesota title in the seller’s name.

The MGB roadster was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation beginning in 1962 and had a production run through 1980. Design changes were applied throughout the model run including revisions to the grille and bumpers. Among them, in 1974, the chrome bumper overriders were replaced with rubber units to meet federal impact regulations. This green 1974 MGB was purchased in 1992 by the seller’s father and has been with the seller for the last 10 years, during which time it received a replacement top and a black vinyl snap-on convertible boot. Brightwork on the bumpers, grille, headlight surrounds, window trim, side moldings, and luggage rack is noted to be in good condition.

Factory 14-inch Rostyle wheels have been sandblasted and repainted. When new, the MGB came with 11-inch disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. The brake lines were replaced as part of recent maintenance.

The two-seat interior offers reupholstered tan vinyl bucket seats matched to the door panels and carpeting as well as a black dash and a black center console with an armrest.

Smiths instrumentation encompasses a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer currently reads 45K miles, according to the seller.

The 1.8-liter B-series inline-four engine has a Weber carburetor conversion. Recent work includes replacement of the fuel lines and hoses. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted four-speed manual transmission equipped with a replacement clutch. The video below shows the car starting up and idling.

I would appreciate your comments on any cosmetic or mechanical needs that the MGB has at this time. When did you acquire the car and do you have receipts for the mechanical repairs and maintenance since you purchased it? Thanks!
