This 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster has driven 64,641 miles and resided in California since new, powered by an M117 4.5-liter V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The seller is the second owner and has owned the vehicle for 14 years, maintaining complete service records outlining fluid changes and other needed mechanical items throughout that timeframe. Finished in red over a black MB-Tex interior, this R107 450SL is now offered with documentation and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
Mercedes-Benz launched the two-seat R107-chassis SL roadster as a personal luxury car beginning in model year 1971 with a standard soft top and optional hard top. This largely-original 450SL is painted red with a matching removable hardtop, featuring corrosion-free bright trim for the mirror caps, side moldings, window trim, and other exterior accents. This SL has spent long-term residence in California and demonstrates rust free panels, optimal gloss, and no prior damage to the body noted. Exterior treatment includes fog lamps, sealed beam headlights, bumper guards, and a ribbed taillight design.
Silver-painted 14” Bundt wheels are wrapped in older Michelin MXV4 205/70-sized tires that are due for replacement. Handling is assisted by power steering and power disc brakes both front and rear.
The interior is trimmed with black MB-Tex upholstery on the bucket seats, with matching door panels, dashboard, carpeting, and floor mats. All cabin materials are described as being in good condition, with gloss woodgrain trim adorning the dash face as well as the center console. Additional amenities include air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, a Becker Mexico AM/FM/cassette radio, a first aid kit, and an older analog accessory telephone.
VDO instrumentation is dominated by a 160-mph speedometer that is flanked by a 7k-rpm tachometer, an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 64,641 miles, which the seller states is a true reading.
The 4.5-liter M117 V8 is equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and was originally rated at 180 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque. The drivetrain has received regular oil and fluid changes along with radiator flushes and ongoing maintenance per the seller. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 3-speed automatic transmission.
The sale includes service records.

@Speedster1956 – Interested! what’s the condition of the soft top? Is it original or has it been replaced? Any pictures available? Thank you, ...
The hardtop is currently on the car and the soft top is original and is in excellent condition. The use on the soft top canvas and window are like new and have been used only twice that I know of. I have no pictures of the soft top because I do not want to remove the hardtop. This SL would be hard to duplicate in all respect, the only reason that i am selling it is that I have 13 collectible cars and have no space to put them.
