This 1966 Ford Mustang two-door hardtop is a rust-free pony car with an updated suspension, 5-spoke wheels, and a 289ci V8 backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. This Mustang was subject to restoration under prior ownership and retains glossy finishes, newer upholstery, and a detailed engine bay with chrome dress-up accents. Finished in orange over a beige vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear Oregon title.
The Mustang model debuted in the mid-1960s and shared platform underpinnings with its compact Falcon sibling, giving rise to the pony car segment. Aesthetic changes were applied in 1966 that involved changes to trim, badging, and drivetrain optioning. This example from 1966 was repainted several years ago and shows good panel gaps, gloss, fitment, and straightness. The bumpers and other accents are free of corrosion or blemishes, the glass is in good condition, and there are dual polished exhaust outlets at the rear.
Five-spoke polished aluminum Cragar wheels are wrapped in Toyo tires with good tread life remaining. The suspension has been outfitted with air shocks in the rear.
The interior is fitted with reupholstered beige vinyl bucket seats with matching door panels and lower dash area, complemented by tan carpeting with rubber floor mats. The seller states that cabin materials are in good condition and free of rips or tears. A JVC AM/FM/cassette radio is installed in the dash, and the trunk has a vinyl mat with a matching cover for the spare tire.
Instrumentation is centered around a 140-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 30k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 289ci V8 is based in a detailed engine bay with a chrome-finished air cleaner and matte-black perimeter. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission.
