This 1950 Cadillac Series 62 four-door sedan first originated in Florida and was relocated cross-country to California in the 1960s where it has resided since that time, retaining its original body components and 331ci V8. The drivetrain benefits from recent work to the generator, water pump, fuel system, and more, with power being fed to the rear via the original 4-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission. The seller has owned the vehicle for eight years and has provided a series of videos demonstrating its condition. Finished in black over a gray two-tone cloth interior, this third-generation Series 62 is now offered with its original California plates, historic documentation, registration cards, a Cadillac handbook, maintenance records, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The Series 62 model first launched in 1940 in the Cadillac lineup as a full-size luxury car and evolved into its third iteration in the late 1940s. Styling changes for the 1950 model year included a longer hood, a one-piece windshield in place of the prior split design, and other cosmetic revisions. This Series 62 four-door sedan has a rust-free body that retains largely-original paint that shows oxidation and patina in some areas. The perimeter is trimmed in brightwork for the front fender stone shields, rocker panel moldings, bumpers with overriders, window moldings, and other chrome accents. According to the seller, the window seals could use some attention.
Steel 15-inch wheels with polished covers bearing Cadillac crests are wrapped in new bias-ply whitewall tires, including the spare tire. The braking system received an overhaul including a replacement master cylinder, wheel cylinders, lines, pads, and newly turned drums.
The interior made by Fleetwood is fitted with a push-button starter and largely original furnishings, with the exception of the black carpeting redone by Bill Dunn of One Stop Shop in Huntington Beach, California. The front and rear benches are upholstered in two-tone gray cloth. The seller notes that the floorboards are free of rust and the vehicle’s original vacuum-based systems function, but adds that they could use some attention.
Instrumentation includes a 110-mph speedometer along with a dash-mounted analog clock and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 60k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The original 331ci OHV V8 was factory rated at 160 horsepower when new and retains its original six-volt electrical system. It recently received an NOS Delco generator, cap, rotor, and spark plug wires; a new water pump; and a new fuel pump as well as a fuel tank flush. The original carburetor and radiator have also been rebuilt. The seller notes that the car has some leaks and the rear end is in need of seals. Power is fed to the rear wheels via the original column-shifted 4-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission that operates as designed, but exhibits occasional slipping.
The sale includes notebooks from the glove compartment, historic documentation, the car's original California plates, registration cards, a Cadillac handbook, and maintenance records. The seller has provided a series of videos below that show the vehicle’s cosmetic and mechanical condition.
